Today's Featured Biography
Randall Gess
After graduation I spent eight years in Austin, TX, where I got a BA and MA in French at the University of Texas at Austin. In 1989 I went to France for two years, where I taught English at the Université de Nice. Then I went to Seattle, WA, where I did my PhD in Romance Linguistics, from 1991-1995. I was hired by the University of Utah, where I worked in the Department of Languages and Literature, and in the Department of Linguistics, for eleven years. I was Chair of the Department of Linguistics for two years before moving on to Carleton University, in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, as Director of its School of Linguistics and Applied Language Studies. I have been here now for only two months.
I moved here with my partner of 13 years, Don Robinson. We met in Seattle and after 10 years together we finally married in Victoria, British Columbia, where it is legal to do so. Since then we have worked hard to move to Canada, and it paid off very quickly!
