Today's Featured Biography
LaRoy Brandt
Let's see, where to begin. I am very happily married to my wife of 21 years Ann. We met within a year of my returning to the US after graduation. She is the love of my life, and I dont know where I would be without her. She is the mother of our 3 children, Christina (20), Nicole (19), and Zachery (17).
This past year Christina and her husband gave us a beautiful grand daughter, Raven Elizabeth. Nicky is married but no children yet. As for Zac, he's a junior in high school this year and is at least an inch taller than I am now (probably will be even more in the end).
Life has taken quite a few turns since I left Lakenheath. I tried to continue going to school , but girls and parties seemed to be more important (I didnt make it through the first semester). Ann and I began to get serious and I tried working in a battery factory (that didnt work). I then joined the USAF and served one enlistment (got tired of being hassled about my weight). I left the USAF and returned to factory work in Missouri. I worked as a machinist for a couple of different corporations and got extremely tired of getting laid off. At that point, I went back to school and in ten years start to finish completed a PhD in Evolutionary Biology.
Currently, I am the head of the biology programs at State Fair Community College. I teach everything from a introductory biology and environmental science courses for non-biology majors, to biology, genetics, wildlife conservation, marine ecology, and field natural history. I also team teach a human sexuality course with a colleague from the sociology dept.
This past year I was able to take some students to Belize for a field course in marine ecology.
I've got an extremely full life, but my heart has an occasional beat that reminds me of England and all my friends from Lakenheath. They have become more frequently of late as numerous tv shows have had at least a Lakenheath segment. I also frequently run into more recent Lakenheath HS attendees. Sounds like things have changed considerably.
