Come One, Come All!
It’s hard to believe 40 years have passed since we left the long, noisy hallways of W. C. Mepham High School! Remember our Pirates and our colors, garnet and gray. Pursuant to numerous requests, we have researched and secured a venue, the Uniondale Marriott, for our 40th reunion. On your behalf, a commitment was made, so please join us for our reunion weekend October 29-31, 2010.
EVENT DETAILS
FRIDAY EVENING, October 29th - We will meet at 8 pm at Champions Bar located off of the Uniondale Marriott’s lobby. This is an informal gathering, so come as you are, and pay as you go.
SATURDAY EVENING, October 30th - Our reunion is being held from 7:30 pm - 11:30 pm at the Uniondale Marriott, 101 James Doolittle Blvd, located north of Hempstead Turnpike, west of Merrick Avenue and east of Hofstra University. Hotel room reservation info is shown on page 2. A DJ will provide music, a souvenir journal will be distributed to attendees and mailings will be sent.
SUNDAY MORNING, October 31st - Meet in the West Cafeteria at Mepham for brunch and a building tour. At 11 am, the principal, Mr. Michael Harrington, will escort us throughout the building. Wait until you see the restored map in the Auditorium…it‘s restoration was a huge accomplishment! Brunch will be served from 11:30 am -
1 pm.
PARTICIPATION DETAILS
Saturday - $125 per person and the menu includes:
Open Bar for 4 hours - Smirnoff vodka, Beefeater gin, Bacardi light rum, Maker’s Mark bourbon, Grants scotch, Canadian Club whiskey, Jose Cuervo Gold, Stone Cellars merlot and chardonnay, Beringer white zinfandel, Budweiser, Bud Light, Amstel Light, Heineken, Corona, O’Doul’s and assorted soft drinks
One Hour Butler-Passed Hors D’ Oeuvres - Artichoke & Spinach Triangles with baby greens & feta; Coney-Island-Style Mini-Cocktail Franks with sauerkraut & mustard; Sesame Chicken with apricot sauce
Asian Station - Shrimp and Pork with Wasabi in a Spinach Wrap with Sesame Garlic Sauce; Steamed Chicken and Lemongrass Dumplings With Orange Ginger Sauce, served with brewed soy sauce
Box Salad - Napa Cabbage, Roasted Shitake Mushrooms, Soba Noodles Sesame Vinaigrette
Two Hour Food Service:
Chef Stations - Mini Braised Kobe Short Rib Burgers with Sliced Roma Tomato, Boston Bib Lettuce and Dijon Mustard Emulsion; Classic Macaroni and Cheese served with the following toppings: Oven-Roasted Chorizo Sausage, Roasted Portobello Mushrooms and Fresh Tomato Pistou
Buffet Station - Thyme and Gremolata-Crusted Breast of Chicken with rich Marsala and tomato jus; Citrus-Glazed Atlantic Salmon with Picholine Olives and Lemon Buerre Blanc; Garlic Mashed Potatoes; Carrots Vichy; assorted dinner rolls and butter
Dessert Station - Warm Cookie Station - Homemade Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal Raisin and Peanut Butter, served with Vanilla and Chocolate Ice Cream; Freshly-Brewed Coffee, Decaffeinated Coffee and Gourmet Teas
Sunday - $25 per person and the menu includes:
Assorted breakfast and lunch items, coffee, tea and soft drinks. Feel free to bring family members.
Several hotel accommodations have been set aside at the Uniondale Marriott (a 100% smoke-free environment) for October 29th and 30th. A negotiated rate has been secured at $149 per night plus tax (single or double occupancy). Once our quota is sold out, additional rooms may or may not be available at the Marriott’s regular rates.
If interested in reserving a room, contact the Marriott at 1-800-228-9290 and provide the code MEPMEPA. Check-in: after 4 pm; check out: before 11 am. If you must cancel your reservation, do so prior to 6 pm day of arrival to avoid a fee. Self-parking is complimentary, but valet service exacts fees.
The Marriott has strict commitment guidelines. We MUST receive your REUNION RESPONSE FORM prior to May 20th. If we do not receive favorable responses and payment immediately, the reunion will either be cancelled or changed to another venue.
NOTE: An Alumni Association membership dues form and a Mepham Memorabilia order form are also below. If interested, please enclose separate checks.
This is the ONLY mailing you will receive for the reunion. No tickets will be issued, and your check is your receipt. Refunds will only be honored if cancelled prior to July 1, 2010. MEMBERSHIP DUES AND DONATIONS FORM
Support the efforts of your Alumni Association and receive copies of our publications, Quarterdeck and the annual magazine, Scuttlebutt. January 1 marks the beginning of the membership year. Check the mailing label on the envelope for your dues expiration date. Dues may be paid any time in the year and will be applied to that year’s dues, or the next unpaid year, unless you specify otherwise. Your check will be your receipt. Membership dues or a donation of $15 ($20 per couple) or more will assure receipt of the Scuttlebutt. Individual donations of $25 or more (or $50 or more per couple) will be listed in the Quarterdeck.
