Amy Lorentzen Bailey

I went to Mexico as an exchange student in 1987-1988. Next, I went to the University of Minnesota, Morris and graduated in December of 1991 with a double major in Human Services and Spanish. I returned to Anchorage and worked at the Jesse Lee Home for about 6 months, then went to Italy in 1992-1993 as a volunteer worker.

I returned to Anchorage in 1993 and worked at the Jesse Lee Home again, as well as Covenant House until the Anchorage School District (ASD) hired me in Feb. of 1994. I worked for the ASD for 11 years as a bilingual tutor at Abbott Loop Elementary and also one other school. Somewhere in there I went back to school, and got a minor in English from UAA in 2001. In addition, I played second violin with the Anchorage Civic Orchestra from 1994-2000.

I got married on June 18, 2002 to Michael Bailey, who is from New Zealand, and we bought a house in Anchorage. I continued to work for the ASD until the birth of our daughter, Estella, on August 30, 2005. I am currently a stay-at-home mom and our second daughter, Bronwyn, was born on Dec. 12, 2007.

Interests/Hobbies: Traveling, languages, hiking, rollerblading, skate skiing, snowshoeing, proofreading for my church's website and for their printed material, private tutoring in Italian (and other subjects), classical music, Latin music, multiculturalism, and reading. I also really like browsing through coffee shops/bookstores, and doing the crossword from "The New York Times."
