Michael Singleton
Commander Singleton hails from Mobile, Alabama, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in October 1976. He completed basic training at Naval Training Center, San Diego California in December 1976.
Commander Singleton’s enlisted tours of duty include Naval Air Technical Training Center, Lakehurst, New Jersey, from January 1977 to March 1977; USS John F. Kennedy (CV-67) from April 1977 to April 1980; Fighter Squadron One Seventy One (VF-171) from May 1980 to November 1981, Pre-commissioning crew USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) from November 1981 to October 1983, USS Coral Sea from November 1983 to May 1985, USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV-67) from June 1985 to August 1987 and Naval Manpower Analysis Center from September 1987 to November 1989.
Commander Singleton was commissioned in December 1989 under the Limited Duty Officer (LDO) Program and attended LDO/CWO Indoctrination School in Pensacola, Florida, in January 1990. His first commissioned assignment was onboard USS Nimitz (CVN-68) as the Air Boatswain/Crash and Salvage Officer from February 1990 to November 1992. In December 1992 to December 1994, he transferred to VAW-120, E2C/C2 Fleet Replacement Squadron as the Line Division and Aircraft Division Officer. He returned to sea duty onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) as the V-1 Division /Flight Deck Officer from November 1994 to February 1998. Subsequently, he was reassigned onboard as the Aircraft Handling Officer. While Theodore Roosevelt was undergoing an Extended Dry dock Selected Restricted Availability (EDSRA) he was detailed and reassigned to USS Dwight D. Eisenhower(CVN-69) as the Aircraft Handling Officer from February 1998 to December 1999. After two successive sea tours, he transferred to Naval Aviation Schools Command as the Director, Limited Duty Officer and Chief Warrant Officer Indoctrination School in Pensacola, Florida, from December 1999 to November 2001. He then returned to sea duty and reported onboard USS George Washington (CVN-73) as the Aircraft Handling Officer from December 2001 to April 2004. After another successful sea tour, he reported to COMNAVAIRFOR San Diego, California, as the Naval Air Forces Aircraft Handling Officer from April 2004 to May 2006. Commander Singleton reported to Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit, Oceana as Executive Officer in May 2006 and Commanding Officer in August 2007. Transferred to COMNAVAIRLANT, Naval Station Norfolk, VA as Officer in Charge, Naval Air Forces Atlantic Fleet Aircraft Handling Training Teams in December 2008.
Commander Singleton has made eleven deployments on six different aircraft carriers. Four deployments were onboard USS JOHN F. KENNEDY (CV-67), one onboard USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70), one onboard USS Nimitz (CVN-68), two onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), and one onboard USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN-69) and two onboard USS George Washington (CVN-73).
Commander Singleton’s awards include the Meritorious Service Medal (2 award), Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (6 awards), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (3 awards) and various campaign and service medals.
