Today's Featured Biography
Michael Colasurdo
Well, here ya go – My family and I still live in our house in Downey that we purchased 1985. I married Susan Keys (DHS Class of 1982). We were married in 1984 by Brad Risser’s (famous DHS Quarter Back) dad. We have two great kids Brittney (21 yrs old) and Michael (19 yrs old). I have worked in manufacturing most of my career. I started out by taking advantage of the 4 years of metal shop classes with Mr. Shannon. I began as a machinist for about 5 years. I decided to go back to school to get my degree and found that I couldn’t stand school. So I stayed with work and moved into engineering applying what I learned as a machinist. I worked for a couple years at Norris Industries as a Tool Engineer.
I accepted a position at Northrop Corp in Pico Rivera, CA and worked on the B2 Stealth Bomber for about eleven years. This was truly one of the greatest experiences to work and develop technologies that are to this day are still pretty advanced. At the end of the Cold War, aerospace started to tank so I had an opportunity to move in to the financial services industry. Boy, was this a big change in my career. I had the chance to work around some great business men who helped me with my business acumen. Well, to make a long story short, I moved up to executive management and helped grow this Orange County company as head of Operations. The greatest accomplishment was to be part of a team that help develop a small company to the point that Jack Welch’s M&A team from GE targeted us for a buy-out for their financial services portfolio.
After seven years, I got the itch to move back to Northrop when an old boss asked if I’d come assist him start up a new organization to help assimilate the new Northrop Grumman Corp. which is now made up of over 30 companies and 125K people – well, I am now back to working on some really cool secret things that will help America remain the great free country we have all come to know and love.
Well, during this time Susan and I have become grandparents and have a wonderful time with all of our family and friends. One of the coolest things is staying in regular contact with friends that I have known as far back as the second grade and they are Steve Makepeace, Jim Bates, Mike Tesoriero, Mark Otten and several others.
It will be great to see so many of you that have signed up for our 30 year reunion.
Best Regards to All,
Michael Colasurdo
