Today's Featured Biography

Don Cordier

Starting with my career, I have been in aviation since 1965.

I have been operating from the Van Nuys Airport since 1969 (YIKES!!!). If you might like to learn a bit more about my business, please visit my website. The URL is:
http://home.earthlink.net/~doncordier/

Currently, I operate a variety of training programs that are approved by all aviation insurers. These programs are designed for initial or recurrent pilot training in certain sophisticated aircraft operated by individuals and companies in the pursuit of their businesses.

In addition, I am an active Aircraft Rescue Firefighter, Peace Officer and Airport Operations Specialist. I also am licensed as a California Real Estate Broker/Agent and lease industrial buildings adjacent to the Van Nuys Airport. Until recently, I held a California Insurance Brokers/Agents Certificate and operated my own aviation insurance brokerage as a side-line to my FBO businesses for sixteen years. I specialized in corporate/business aircraft and Fixed Base Operations (FBO's). I have also taught at Glendale College in the Aviation Department and specialized in courses for advanced pilot training which are designed for those seeking certification and a career as a professional pilot.

On occasion, I double as a body guard for some of my flying clients. This adds a very interesting side to my career and certainly keeps one from becoming complacent.

Obviously, I like to be active. This is true of my career pursuits and carries into in my physical fitness pursuits too.

Regarding my fitness interests, and because I mostly set my own schedule, I am an avid cyclist on an almost daily basis (both road and a little bit of trail). I like to hike (local, light trails) and recently began a bit of running again (and very little thus far!!!).

In addition to what I have already mentioned, I enjoy many other outdoor activities including rowing (kayaking, canoeing and sculling). Also, I have a background in gymnastics and continue to be involved in martial arts. I really enjoy and am adamant about maintaining good health and fitness as both are very important to me and necessary for my career(s).

In addition to fitness, some of the “evening out” things that I personally enjoy are dining (“Musashi”, a Japanese restaurant in Northridge is one of my favorites), theatre (stage productions), concerts and films and small nightclubs. I especially enjoy live music when it is presented in a venue that is small (less than forty people). I also enjoy museums like the Getty and am a member of the Simon Wiesenthal Center.

Although I am not Jewish, I have the greatest respect for the Jewish faith. Also, I should mention that I consider Dennis Prager as my personal rabbi or spiritual master and my moral compass. If you are familiar with Dennis then you will likely understand what I am saying. If you are not familiar with him, then I would love to introduce you to him. BTW - his radio show and personal website is:
www.DennisPrager.com

I like almost all types of music, except “Rap” and “Roller Disco” (just kidding about the Roller Disco). In order of preference, I like country, blues, jazz (both the more contemporary and the classical style), classic rock (including “surfing” music) and classical selections.

My other interests are varied. Because of the needs of my careers, I tend to read a lot of technical material in order to keep current or to comply with various Continuing Education requirements. I do occasionally read or listen to books on tape or disc for pleasure. These are usually books and articles about leadership, biographies of individuals, studies of various companies or corporations and writings or audios from motivational speakers.

Well, it appears that I am running out of the limited space that is allocated for this profile. I would very much like to hear from all of my friends that join or visit this site.

My warmest wishes to all!!!

Don
