Today's Featured Biography
Evelyn Heraty (Farnsworth) White
In 1980 I moved to Northern California and settled in beautiful Sonoma County. I attended Sonoma State University from 1980-1984. Graduated with a degree in Biology (empasis - Marine) and a minor in Chemistry. The summer after graduation, I accepted a temporary harvest job at Chateau St Jean winery in Sonoma Valley. I fell in love with the wine industry and decided to stay. I worked at CSJ for 4 years, then accepted a position at Lyeth Winery as Assistant Winemaker. In 1992 I began work at Clos du Bois Wines as the laboratory enologist. I promoted to Assistant Winemaker after 2 years. In 2000 I was promoted to Winemaker. I share this position with 2 other Winemakers. My responsibilities include overseeing production of all white wines as well as overseeing the bottling operation of all wines.
Over the 23 years that I have spent in Sonoma County, I have seen my 2 children, Seann and Heather, grow to be responsible, caring parents. They have given me 4 grandchildren - Seann, Christina, Tabitha, and Dylan. All are healthy and very gifted.
During this time, I also saw my first marriage dissolve. However, in 1993, I met a wonderful man (that would be Rick), while traveling in Portugal. We married in 2000. We are both in the wine industry, so we have a lot of common ties. We both enjoy traveling when we can and have managed to travel to Europe at least once a year since we met in 1993. Life has been pretty good for us. There have been rough times for all. But, there has really been nothing that has been so overwhelming that we have been devastated.
By the way, I am still playing those bagpipes. I even got Seann involved for a few years. Most of my time is now spent either at work, traveling, gardening (lots of roses), or just being with Rick, the kids, the grandkids, and the dog.
My mom, brothers (Lee and Charlie Farnsworth), and my sister (Lois Rattray) are still in La Mesa and El Cajon. Lee and my mom are still in the same house where I was born and raised!
