Today's Featured Biography
Chris Reed
After graduating from Helix, I went into the Navy for 3.5 years. Thereafter, I worked for an alarm company for awhile in El Cajon, doing installation work. After spending one hot summer day in an old musty attic, I realized I didn't want to spend the rest of my life in attics. Thus, I moved to Fayetteville, Arkansas in order to attend the University of Arkansas (Razorbacks). I received a degree in Financial Mangagment from the U of A, and then went to the University of Arkansas School of Law. After receiving my law degree, I went to the University of Missouri at Kansas City (UMKC) School of Law and received a Masters of Law (LLM) in Taxation.
I have since moved back to Fayetteville, Arkansas (actually I just moved into a new house last weekend which is in the city of Springdale, directly north of Fayetteville), living with my wife Jeneen, and our two daugthers, Sydney (age 5) and Summer (11 months), with another girl on the way (due date of July 9, 2003)....So, now it will be 4 against 1; I think god has a cruel sense of humor sometimes.
I am currently with a firm of 8 attorneys, practicing in the area of tax, estate planning, corporate, business, commercial, and contract law.
After I got out of the Navy, I started working out quite a bit, and eventually ended up competing a few body building contests. I have kept up training, but don't have the time to do any type of competition, I do so more to be able to keep up with my kids than anything. Also, my wife, who is an orthopedic surgeon nurse by day, and an aerobics instructor by night, somehow talked me into teaching a Body Pump class twice a week. For those of you who don't know what body pump is, it is an hour long class in which the particpants lift weights for an hour. The movements are coreographed to music in order to work every muscle. It has become really popular in this area...I'm not too sure how well it is doing in other regions.
In addition to work, working out and spending time with my family, I try to find time to play golf (at least try to play)...it's more of a reason to drive around in a cart and drink beer, and catch up on some reading.
Although I enjoy living here in Arkansas, I do miss San Diego. I have thought about moving back. Maybe in time I will make it back. For now however, it's not too bad here. It definately is not what I thought it would be like here....it isn't anything like the stereotyped perception I had of Arkansas. I live in the Northwest part of the State, which is in the Ozark Mountains. Wal-Mart, Tyson, Inc. and J.B. Hunt are just 3 of the major corporations that have their headquarters located here. With Wal-Mart being so large now, they have required all their vendors to have offices located here in order to keep Wal-Mart as a client. Thus, the area has been growing rapidly over the past 5 years, and is expected to keep growing.
As you can see, I have come along way from Helix High. I do believe that lessons I learned while at Helix, from the school work to the relationships with friends, has played a big part of getting me to where I am now.
