Teri Jo McKown

Teri McKown began her athletic career in the early 70's as a competitive AAU swimmer in Southern California. Along with her age group swimming, she was an accomplished athlete throughout high school (e.g. Varsity Volleyball MVP, Swimming MVP, Varsity 2nd Singles Badminton, and Varsity Gymnastics), college, and with the Los Angeles Police Department.
As a Physical Training (PT) Instructor at the LAPD Academy in Los Angeles during the early to mid 80's, she was responsible for the development of a new recruit training program that incorporated 'real world' physical movements that simulated speed, strength, balance, and endurance necessary in foot pursuits, altercations, combat wrestling and obstacles courses. Teri also was charged with getting the recruits strong and fit both mentally and physically in a short period of time (4 months).
She competed in various running events for the department as well as participated in the State and World Police Olympic Games in swimming (e.g. State Police Record 50 yard Butterfly, member of 1st place Death Valley Relay Race; 1st Place Toughest Cop Alive Women's Division 1984, first women to run Snake Mountain (7.2 miles) under 60 minutes - 1986). Prior to joining the Los Angeles Police Department, Teri was a member of the UCLA Women's Swim Team, Women's Field Hockey Team for Mount San Antonio College, Walnut California, Women's Field Hockey Team, Cal Poly Pomona, the head Women’s' swim coach at Scripps College, Claremont, California, Assistant Men's swim coach for Claremont Men's College, Assistant Women’s' Volleyball Coach for Scripps College, Assistant Boy's Swim Coach for Covina High school, Assistant Coach for the Chaffey Aquatics Club, Ontario, California, and was honored as a Hall of Fame Athlete at her high school, Ontario High, Ontario, California.
As an experienced athlete and coach, Teri learned how to train herself and other athletes. In college, she was initially a Physical Education major and was educated in the sciences of human kinetics, biomechanics, injury prevention, and creating programs for conditioning and specific sports training.
After years of working for two of the Fortune 100 companies, Teri decided to go back into the world of fitness. Teri was determined to make a life change and help others in their wellness plans. She knew she could really make a positive difference in people's lives. In 2005, Teri created her company, Stress Resilient Living LLC based in Sacramento, California that would provide wellness coaching/consulting to individuals and groups for stress relief, improved health and overall achievement of one's personal best fitness level.
For the past six years, Teri has been improving the lives of many Sacramento residents through Wellness Coaching. She has worked with hundreds of employees within a large hospital system and has also worked with physicians that have referred their patients to her. She is selective about the clients she accepts into her training program. She admits that the client is responsible for achieving the results, and that it takes an enormous about of discipline and determination. But Teri's techniques soften the blow by making workouts fun, challenging, and a bit different each time.
Teri holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology with honors from Ohio Northern University, Ada, Ohio. She is a certified Life Coach through IPEC; a Certified Wellcoach(R) through Wellcoaches(R), Inc; and currently seeking her personal trainer certification through the ISSA and her CrossFit Level 1 Certification with CrossFit, Inc
