Today's Featured Biography
Kimberly Beatty Allard
Excuse me, as this will be long. I am long-winded in writing, but shy in person.
Born in Indiana, went to kindergarten in Colorado, moved to San Diego for first grade. I went to Hardy Elementary for 1-half of 5th, then transferred to Encanto Elementary seminar program for 5th and 6th. Went to Horace Mann, then Crawford.
As a senior at Crawford, I started moving away from high school emotionally. I still had some friends I enjoyed very much, but got more heavily involved in the scooter scene. I spent the next 6 or so years hanging out at Gelato Vero's (on India Street), going to shows, riding on scooter rallies, hanging out with The Donkey Show (the ska band), and belonged to a couple scooter clubs. Yes, I had my own scooter! More than one. (We still have 4 in the garage.)
Met my husband behind the old Round Table Pizza on El Cajon Blvd and College at a Jett Sett Scooter club meeting (they met in the parking lot behind the Round Table). We were friends for a couple years before we ended up together. He was friends with Dan Murtaugh and Dimitri Callian, whom I knew from Crawford, class of 1984. He later worked as a Vespa mechanic at Vespa Supershop.
But the scooter scene did not keep me from continuing with my other goals, including pursuing my education. I went to Grossmont College, UC Santa Barbara, and San Diego State. In fact, I rediscovered myself in college, now that the focus was not on how many boys I could have crushes on! I took WAY too many classes in WAY too many areas and it took me a long time to finish....couldn't decide what I wanted to do. I had taken so many art classes along the way, I finally decided to just finish that up and start the teaching credential program. Started teaching, then continued on with a Master's in Education, and am currently taking courses in Educational Technology and hoping to be admitted to the next cohort in the doctorate program.
I taught a couple years of 3/4 combo classes and one 5th grade year at King Elementary in southeast SD. Loved the people I worked with, loved most of the kids, but hated the administration. It was a rough school, lots of behavior problems. Had the opportunity to transfer to Vista Grande Elementary in Tierrasanta to a 2nd grade. Even though the little kids weren't my thing, I took the job to move to a better school. 2nd grade was good, but requested to move up. I taught 4th grade last year and will teach it again this year. Eventually, I would like to teach 6th grade+, computers, art, writing, or perhaps college.
Meanwhile....
I gave birth to triplets in February 1996. I didn't come to the reunion in 1995 because of the triplet pregnancy. Then we decided we wanted to experience what it was like to have ONE infant, so we had Marley 5 years later. Then, surprise, James Dakota came along 2 years later. No, we weren't trying for a boy.
My husband works for Breier Audio Video (the Breier's lived two doors down from my parents), installing high-end sound and video systems in homes and other facilities.
The triplets are getting ready to start 4th grade and go to my school with me. They are VERY different, in looks and in personalities. They each have their own rooms, as bedtime was like one big slumber party when they shared. The two little ones share a room. We had added on to the house and THEN found out we were expecting number 5!
I enjoy making webpages, crochet, painting, stamping, and reading...especially children's literature for school.
Everything written above makes it sound like life is wonderful! Well, along the road, I also gained a LOT of weight (and lost a lot). Raising 5 kids is always hard, especially with three girls the same age (vindictive!). Keeping the house clean is a contant battle and we're always short on money.
All-in-all, life is good. Been happily married for 15 years. Once a year Dylan and I get a chance to go to Las Vegas, when my husband goes to the Consumer Electronics Show for business.
We would LOVE to find a babysitter so we can spend more time going out.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
