Life
Hi everyone! Glad you stopped by. My life has been pretty interesting. I got married at 21. Nice girl. Lasted 6 years. Her mother convinced her I was a bum and she left me. We created 2 wonderful children. David, now 29 and Kimi, now 24. Their mother is not doing fine, sheâ;;s doing time. (And her MOM thought "I" was a bum. Jokes on her). My life moved on beautifully. 5 years later I met my wonderful wife. Got married in 1992 and have an 15 year old daughter. Check out her picture. Beth won't let me take her picture or I would post one as well. Katrina, I snuck up on. We were married 17 years in April of 2009. She moved out April 23 to never return. I had a great marriage, evidently she thought otherwise. (WOW!) Single now and have moved on. Found a nice girl now and am finding things out about myself that I never knew. Updates to come.
College
Are you kidding? Me? College? I did not like the two years I spent there and it did not like me.
Workplace
I started liking computers in high school when I took a computer class. It was in the temporary classroom outside the back door of the school, the same room as the art class. I got my first job in computers while in school at Computer Research Corporation. They were conveniently located on the other side of Ralston across the street from the school. That was a really fun job.. (Tried to date the bosses daughter, wouldn't go out with me. let alone even talk to me.) After high school, I worked at Diners Club in Englewood, then the First National Bank of Denver. Started out as a tape librarian in Mainframe data processing, and worked my way up to supervisor. (I hated being supervisor! I fired myself after 6 months). Changed jobs to production control and scheduling (Loved it) When they were bought out by First Interstate Banks, I was laid off. Unemployment lasted 4 days. I took a job in Omaha for the same pay but with a lower cost of living. (I bought a house for less than I was paying for rent in Denver.) That lasted 2 years until I told the boss what he could do with his job. (Take my advice, the boss is always right, Even when he is wrong! Document everything to CYA!) This time I was unemployed for 18 months. No job means no house, no car and eventually no wife. I had to move back to mom and dads in Springfield, Missouri till I could get back on my feet. Amazing how moving back home is so motivational. Not at all like when I was 18! I finally got a job in Kansas City at Boatmenâ;;s First National Bank. Was there for 2 years, it only took 2 years to get promoted to Senior Operations Specialist in the data center. From there I found a higher paying job at Sprint. That ride lasted for 12 years. I Moved from Console Operations in the data center to Systems and Applications programmer during that time. Most of that time I had fun. In 1998 and 1999 I was Lead Operations Testing Analyst on the year 2000 team. Imagine, I had 3 Mainframe systems under my complete control. I had more fun than at any time in my career. The last 3 were a nightmare. When the Y2K teams were dismantled, I took a position as Systems Analyst. I thought I was going to have more fun. Nope. The manager was a Micro-manager and would not let anyone do their job the way they thought it should be done. If a project was completed in a way that she did not approve of, the project was redone her way. (Especially if the team had done it better than her way!) Either way the results were the same. This caused me so much stress that one day I could not get out of bed to go to work. Fortunately, after 12 years, in February 2002, I was laid off!!!! Whoopppeee!! (I was too chicken to quit). After 30 days joyous unemployment, I found that It was going to be impossible to ever go back to work again. It was then I decided to be my own boss. I started my own company. Geek Brigade LLc. (Now renamed Geek Werkz Because Best Buy did not like the other name.), an In Home PC Service and Support Company. It is based in Grandview Missouri (South Suburb of Kansas City). In May of 2002 I took my first service call and I have never looked back. After 2 years in the field helping people with their computers, I hired a staff and moved into management. I now employ 8 people, 5 full time and 3 independent contractors. I run the office and am the Company President, Tech Support, Customer support, help desk, in store Service tech and janitor. Now I am having fun, except the janitor part. I have kept to my promise to never have another job. Over 11 years on my own and have never missed a meal. I go home exhausted every night, but am always eager to go back. (My ex had to call me when it was time to come home, otherwise I will spend all night at the shop!) If anyone ever comes to Kansas City, Please stop by. I would love to chat. (My favorite part of the "job") I am in the phone book yellow pages. Find Geek Werkz.
Love you all. Especially Kathy F., Anita E., Dave W., and Diane H.
