Today's Featured Biography
Linda Obel
I graduated with my B.S. in Special Education degree from the University of Wisconsin. I then taught for five fulfilling years in my hometown of Wausau, Wisconsin. After contracting a severe case of wanderlust, I visited Turkey on holiday. I decided to move to the Middle East and have lived in Kuwait since 2001. Along the way I studied during my summers off in Madrid and earned a Master's Degree in International Education through Endicott College out of Massachusetts. I now develop special education programs in Kuwait, teach part-time, and do consulting for large firms from the U.S. who are relocating families to the Middle East and seek cultural advisement.
I have been very fortunate to travel, live a life rich with culture and fascinating people, and have visited over 40 countries to date. I enjoy travel (obviously!), ethnic cooking, and volunteer work. My first extended trip abroad was in Ghana where I worked with village women through the Ghana Red Cross/Red Crescent Society. I have also done extensive volunteer work in the areas of hospice care and adult literacy. I have shed my role as high school “drama queen,” as I find my international lifestyle plenty full of drama without needing to create more of my own!!!
I will not be able to attend the reunion as I am preparing myself for the start of a Ph.D. and am presently taking an Arabic course while living in Fes, Morocco, for the summer. I do come home to Tampa every couple of years and stay with my sister, Sue Marton, in New Port Richey, my brother Clark in Lakeland, and my father in Carollwood. Thanks so much to my family for always providing a home away from “home!!” My next visit to Tampa will be in December of 2007 and I would love to reconnect with some Gulf High classmates!
