Tim Johnson's career in the security and investigative field began in 1970 as an electronic specialist responsible for testing, repair and evaluation of Minuteman Missile security systems.
In 1972 he was assigned as a Special Agent with the Air Force Office of Special Investigations (AFOSI) after 13 years as a radio and electronic equipment maintenance technician with the US Army and Air Force.
While serving with the AFOSI he received additional training by the AFOSI, Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in electronic countermeasures (debugging), investigative support (bugging), Crime Scene Photography, locks, alarms and barrier and physical defense.
In his final assignment with AFOSI he served as the Division Chief at a District Headquarters at which he provided Technical Surveillance Countermeasures (TSCM)/Electronic Counter Measures (ECM) and technical investigative support for criminal, intelligence and counter espionage investigations at locations in 7 Southern states, working with the FBI, local and state agencies and assisted in several worldwide Air Force criminal and counter intelligence investigations. He was assigned to this position as a direct request by the District Commander and served in a position normally serviced by an Air Force Major (O-4); his rank at that time was MSgt (E-7). As a result of his service he was awarded the Air Force Meritorious Service Medal upon retirement.
After retiring from the Air Force in September1981, he worked at NASA, Johnson Space Center as a Physical Security Specialist, further developing the ECM program supporting classified Space Shuttle missions as well as oversight on the installation and evaluation/acceptance of the enhances security system required as a result of the highly sensitive nature of the various Shuttle Programs. He was directly responsible for the change from unsecure to secure communications between the Astronauts while in flight on the Space Shuttle.
In 1983, he assisted in establishing the TSCM/ECM program for the Department of Energy (DOE), Washington, DC. This expanded from the two headquarters facilities in and near Washington, DC to eventually include support to Naval nuclear research facilities and other nuclear related activities, all DOE Sensitive Compartmented Information Facilities, All TSCM requirements east of the Mississippi river, supporting specific TSCM requests west of the Mississippi river, closed sessions of Congressional hearings on Capital Hill in which Energy related information was discussed, and response and technical support to foreign locations in which bugging activities had been discovered. Additional duties with the DOE included Serving as a member of the Nuclear Emergency Search Team (NEST East) and maintenance of NEST equipment. Additionally, he assisted in setting up a two week Introduction to Information Protection to be provided to key personnel and covered Protection of Proprietary Information and the technical threat to such information.
He moved to the Phoenix area in 1985 and formally established Technical Security Consultants Inc. in April 1986, after being "downsized" from Winkelmann Countermeasures Inc.
He now resides in Carrollton, Georgia (Atlanta area) from which location he continued to support major corporations and government contractors with specialized TSCM security assistance until his retirement in December 2018.
In addition to conducting TSCM and security evaluations of corporate and governments sensitive areas Tim also conducted 2 day seminars for corporate and government security personnel in which he addressed the threat to loss of sensitive/proprietary information from a physical as well as a technical threat in both the united states as well as In Mexico. In addition to the above areas of education he also provided training for corporate security personnel in the areas of debugging.
Tim has operated as a Contract Special Investigator with several government agencies and prime contractors conducting investigations for the Department of Defense, Department of the Treasury and Homeland Security since approximately 1989 to present.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
1986-2016: President, Technical Security Consultants Inc., a Georgia based organization providing Electronic Countermeasures (TSCM) Surveys, TSCM training, physical security and pre construction evaluations and other related services to the government and private sector. Retired 0n 31 December 2019
1990 – Present: Contract/Special Investigator from approximately 1990 to present.
1985-1986: Manager, Technical Surveillance Countermeasures Services, Winkelmann Countermeasures Inc. Tempe, Arizona, where he marketed and performed electronic Countermeasures on a local and national level.
Developed a Countermeasures training program of two weeks duration designed to develop the skills necessary for personnel to provide a professional Countermeasures service to customers or employers.
Provided initial input and follow up assistance on the design of the Countermeasures training facility.
Provided guidance and direction to Fortune 500 organizations in establishing their Countermeasures programs and requirements.
Performed initial and follow-up contact with government organizations in matters pertaining to Countermeasures equipment, services and training.
1983-1985: Technologist, EG&G Inc., a Fortune 500 company and prime contractor with the Department of Energy. Provided electronic Countermeasures survey service to the Department of Energy (DOE), organizations involved in nuclear development and research, and select U.S. Congressional and U.S. Senate committees and sub-committees. Provided Countermeasures (TSCM) and counter-intelligence training to DOE personnel at over 35 locations.
1981-1983: Physical Security Specialist (GS-11), NASA, Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX. Provided TSCM services and coordinated TSCM related activities with the Department of Defense and NASA in sensitive and classified space shuttle and space programs related areas. Provided protective security to Astronauts and their families as well as the Space Shuttle and specially modified 747 carrier aircraft. Performed other specialized investigative and security related activities.
1980-1981: Division Chief, Technical Services Division, District 8, Air Force Office of Special Investigations, Maxwell AFB, Alabama. Coordinated and provided TSCM services within a seven state area of responsibility as well as supporting USAF/DOD TSCM and investigative activities worldwide. Coordinated and provided technical assistance (audio, video, wiretap, etc.) to approved criminal and counter-intelligence investigations. Performed criminal investigations. Served on the staff of the District Commander. Initiated a program of, and provided briefings to military organizations and key command personnel on the foreign threat to the Air Force and the United States.
1972-1981: Served in positions of increasing responsibility within the Air Force Office of Special Investigations, to include the position of Division Chief for extended periods when qualified or authorized personnel were not present.
1958-1972: Served in positions of increasing responsibility within the U. S. Army and Air Force electronic equipment maintenance, ground-to-air communications and long distance communications radio equipment organizations.
Meritorious Service Medal, three Air Force Commendation Medals and numerous other awards and letters of commendation and appreciation.
