Today's Featured Biography
Gaynelle Swann Workman
Gaynelle Swann Workman, Mission Solutions Manager in the Precision Engagement Strategic Business Area (PE SBA), is responsible for the development of the PE SBA technology strategy and execution plan; as well as the development of mission solutions that shorten the sensor-to-shooter engagement timeline by integrating sensors, command and control systems, and battlespace effects in order to meet Warfighter capability needs. She recently developed a process to map warfighter capability gaps to enabling technologies, and is currently implementing an autonomous knowledge based system in partnership with a small minority woman-owned business.
Mrs. Workman joined Raytheon in 1999 as a senior systems engineer, where she led multi-disciplined teams in the analysis of missile system performance, failure analysis, risk management, and quality improvements for the Sparrow missile; and provided technical direction for the Japan Sparrow Program Office. She was selected to participate in an Engineering-Contracts Rotation, where she managed the Advanced Gun System Long Range Land Attack Projectile Demonstration Program as a contracts administrator. Prior to joining the Precision Engagement SBA, Mrs. Workman served multiple roles as section manager, responsible for the training and development of personnel in the Land Combat and Air-to-Air Systems Engineering Department, and systems engineering project manager for the Javelin Anti-Tank Weapon System for the United Kingdom.
Prior to joining Raytheon, Mrs. Workman worked at Ford Motor Company, Dearborn, Michigan, where she held a number of diverse engineering assignments – playing key roles in the design, development and manufacturing of next generation Ford products. As a research scientist with Honeywell Technology Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota, she worked on advanced communications and control systems development for the company’s home and building control divisions.
In 2001, Mrs. Workman received the Women of Color in Government and Defense Technology Award for educational leadership, and the YWCA of Tucson Woman on the Move Award. She currently serves as President of the Raytheon Black Employees Network – Tucson, is a member of the Board of Directors for the YWCA of Tucson, is the Western Region Director of the Tuskegee University National Alumni Association, and serves as Raytheon’s Campus Manager for Tuskegee University.
Mrs. Workman graduated from Tuskegee University with a Bachelor of Science in electrical engineering in 1991, and received her Master of Science degree in engineering from Georgia Institute of Technology in 1993.
