Master Sergeant Gregory Van Queen, United States Army, distinguished himself by exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service to the United States Army as the
Operations NCOIC for the Headquarters’ section of the 277th Sustainment Maintenance Company; and
the 17th Combat Service Support Battalion and the Combined Joint Task Force 101 from 29 April 2010 through 15 March 2011; after serving with the 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, Combined Task Force Phoenix IX from 15 February 2009 through 03 November 2009; in support of Operation of Enduring Freedom.

MSG Queen displayed the epitome of leadership from day zero at Fort Stewart. Upon his arrival to
Home station only two months had passed since returning with the 48th Infantry Brigade Combat Team; which lasted from Feb 2009 through Nov 2009. Upon arrival in Afghanistan, four months prior to the main Body of the 48th IBCT, MSG Queen provided timely and comprehensive Situational Awareness to the support of 2,500 US military members of the 48th IBCT. He was a key player in the reception of the lead elements of the 48th IBCT insuring that over 2800 soldiers conducted the In-Processing and Training required for this theatre. Later, he was assigned as the night Battle Captain for Joint Operations Center.
The ISAF Joint Operations Center was located at Camp Phoenix which was a task force of 7500 personnel. Lastly, he was assigned as a member of an ETT Team as a mentor for the Battalion staff for the Afghan National Army’s Counter Narcotics Infantry Kandak. He was involved in mentoring the ANA
BN CSM during the enhanced operations with the Marines in southern Helmand Afghanistan, as well as being the pay agent responsible for the accurate expenditure of the Commanders Emergency Relief Funds to help assist the CNIK in its mission accomplishment.
