Howard Kam
Managing Director of TRUSTA, Certified Public Accountants & Consultants, An Accountancy Corporation. TRUSTA is a member firm of Crowe Horwath International with over 590 offices worldwide. Licensed as a certified public accountant in the State of Hawaii, Georgia, Oregon, and the Territory of Guam.
After graduation from the Shidler College of Business, University of Hawaii at Manoa in December 1978 joined Ernst & Young, LLP. While at the University of Hawaii he was an active member in Beta Alpha Psi, a national accounting honors fraternity.
Member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (Peer Reviewer); the Hawaii Society of Certified Public Accountants (Board Member 1997 to 2003 and Tax Committee Chairperson in 1996 and 2005), served as an international tax and ethics lecturer for these professional organizations; Oregon Society of Certified Public Accountants; Hawaii Hotel Association, and Founding Member of the International Society of Certified Public Accountants. Currently serves as Treasurer and Director of the Sukamto Foundation, a private foundation established to support Hawaii charitable organizations.
Member of Waialae Country Club and the Plaza Club, Beta Alpha Psi, and founding member & President of the Order of the Phoenix MC.
As TRUSTA's Managing Director responsible for overseeing the Firm’s audit, accounting, tax, and consulting services engagements, to include working with the international liaison partners of other Crowe Horwath International member firms in coordinating, administrating and delivering professional services to our multi-national clientele.
During his 30+ years of professional experience, he has worked on accounting, audit, tax (e.g., compliance, domestic & international planning and representation), and business consulting (e.g., business and strategic planning, contracts, due diligence and feasibility studies, human resource studies, litigation support, mergers and acquisitions, and valuation) engagements.
Litigation support engagements included providing expert testimony in contract disputes, application and interpretation of accounting and auditing standards, tax issues, to include serving as the expert to several court appointed special masters.
Retired in 1996 as a Lieutenant Colonel in the United States Army Reserve. Last assignment was the Operations & Plans Officer, Northeast Asia Region for the Pacific Army Liaison Command at Fort Shafter, Honolulu, Hawaii, and previously with the G4, HQ IX Corps Reinforcement, Fort DeRussy, Hawaii.

Graduate of Waianae High School in 1971; Hawaii Military Academy Noncommissioned Officer School in 1972 and Officer Candidate School in 1974; Leeward Community College with a A.S. Degree in Accounting in 1974; University of Hawaii at Manoa with a B.B.A. Degree in Accounting in 1978. Advance taxation courses at George Washington University and New York University between 1988 and 1992; United States Army Command & General Staff College in 1992. Horwath International certifications include Hotel Auditing 1999 and SOX Risk Management 2008.
Founded Trusta, An Accountancy Corporation on September 30, 1983, which is currently listed as one of the largest certified public accounting firms in the State of Hawaii by Pacific Business News.
Previously served as an Advisor with Junior Achievement, Provost Selection Committee and Accounting Curriculum Advisory Board for 25 years for Leeward Community College, State Board of Vocational Education Advisory Committee, Internal Auditor for Ewa Community Church, Director of Palama Settlement, Treasurer and Director of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Honolulu and Hawaii Library Foundation, Director of Bank of Honolulu, President and Director of Hale Kaheka AOAO, Merger Committee Chair and Director of Saint Louis Education Foundation, and Member of the Hawaii State Board of Accountancy and Chair of the Investigative Subcommittee on Peer/Quality Review.
Received the Distinguished Alumni Award from Leeward Community College in 1998; United States Army Meritorious Service Medal and Commendation Medal with Second Oak Leaf Cluster; and Distinguished Service Award from the Hawaii Society of CPA’s in 2003. Listed: Top Ten Accounting Student in the Nation in 1973; Who's Who in American Junior Colleges in 1973; Who's Who in Society in 1986; and Prominent People of Hawaii in 1988.
