Today's Featured Biography
Kevin Anderson
I am currently the Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning in Oak Park District 97, a 10-school district with 5,000 students just west of downtown Chicago. My wife Cindy is an assistant professor at Roosevelt University in Chicago. We moved to Oak Park in 2005 following 5 years in the Kenosha (WI) School District. We are living in the Frank Lloyd Wright historical district and enjoying the history of Oak Park (also the birthplace of Earnest Hemmingway). As Asst. Supt., I am second-in-command of the district and oversee all curriculum development, staff development, instructional technology, gifted programming, foreign languages, and just about everything but special education and finance. Cindy and I also present about 4 times a year at national conferences on the effective uses of instructional technology for both special education and regular education students. We are scheduled to go to Washington, DC early this October for a National Technology Leadership Conference and to discuss the chapter we have written for an upcoming monograph on technology use in schools.
Our son Mark is a computer programmer with EPIC Software Systems just outside Madison, WI and his wife Tanya works for the City of Madison's public access TV channel. Tanya is a Decorah native, too. Her folks Rich and Penny teach at Luther.
Lindsey just graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee with a degree in advertising and public relations. She is currently the training supervisor for the JC Penney store in Racine, WI.
The big new passion in our lives is traveling with our "new" 1986 UHaul Vacationer camper (Yes...UHaul made and rented camping trailers in the '80s). We were bitten by the "camping" bug about 18 months ago and thus far we have traveled to the Black Hills (twice), Rocky Mountain National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and several smaller parks in Wyoming, South Dakota, Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa, and Wisconsin. We have also visited the Pine Ridge Lakota Reservation in South Dakato twice in the past 15 months to volunteer making bunk beds and repairing homes of the elders. Very gratifying! We plan to go back at least once each year, taking donations from folks in Oak Park (school supplies, linens, toys, etc.)
My parents are still living in Decorah and are doing well, living at Vennehjem just north of Decorah. Dad's still a great Cubs fan and may just see them make the playoffs this year. He regularly does active book reviews, where he brings books to life through drama and re-enactments, including costumes. Mom volunteers a lot and stays active with things around Decorah.
Enough for now. We may not be able to make it back this year, but our thoughts will be with all of you.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
