Today's Featured Biography
John Taggart
Following graduation from Montpelier High School and one year at BYU, I served a mission in Duesseldorf, Germany, from 1965-68. I was there with many friends from my years in Malad. I graduated from BYU in 1970 with a B.A. in Political Science and History. I also earned an M.A. in International Relations from BYU in 1973. Marilyn Whitehead and I were married in June 1972. That same year, I was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. We served in the U.S. Army in Germany from 1972 to 1975; one year with the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment near the Czech border and two years with the 66th Military Intelligence Group in Munich. In Munich I served as President of the Servicemen's Branch of the LDS Church.
I studied law at the University of Washington and received a Juris Doctorate in 1978. We spent a year in San Diego where I was a law clerk with a judge on the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals and then we moved to New Jersey and I entered private practice in New York City. We were there from 1979 until 1982, when we moved to Denver. I spent two more years in private practice before joining the Legal Department of the General Electric Company in 1984. Church service during our time in the Denver area included three years as a Bishop. I worked for GE Capital in Denver, San Francisco and Raleigh from 1984 to 2005, when our company was spun off and we became Genworth Financial, Inc.
I retired from Genworth in June 2012. We moved to Beijing in September 0f 2012 where I taught law at China Foreign Affairs University, returning in July 2013 to preside over the Raleigh North Carolina Temple.
We have lived in the Raleigh area for 27 years and counting. In that time, in addition to helping Marilyn raise five children, my service in the Church has included Scoutmaster, High Councilor, Young Men's President, Bishop, Stake President and Area Seventy.
As to our offspring: Ben, Crystal and their three children live in Monroe, Washington, where Ben works as a software engineer. Nathan, Nikole and their five children live in Rochester, Minnesota, where he is a pediatric cardiologist at the Mayo Clinic and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Medical School. Nick, Miriam and their five children live in Canby, Oregon, south of Portland. He is a financial adviser and recently earned his MBA from the Wharton School. Meredith, Jim and their five children live in Japan, where Jim is a Navy dentist. Jack is a recent BYU grad. He, Joanna and their new daughter live in North Hollywood, California, where he is trying to break into television as a writer.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
