Today's Featured Biography
Sandra Whalen Bauer
Can you imagine riding down the Rhine River, gliding past medieval castles or floating down the Seine River, seeing famous sites in Paris like Notre Dame from the water. Or maybe walking in the footsteps of French kings and queens at Versailles. Imagine seeing the Crown Jewels of England and seeing crowns that have set on the heads of kings and queens of England for hundreds of years, climbing in the Alps of Switzerland, relaxing on the white sand Caribbean beaches of Aruba. Sandra Bauer has done all of these things and more.
Sandra was born on October 16, 1950, in Mount Vernon, Illinois, but she grew up in many places. Her father was in the US Army in the Korean War when she was born. When her father returned, she began moving from place to place. As a member of the US Army, her father was assigned to places like Wisconsin, Missouri, Germany, and Colorado. She learned to adapt to change and even enjoy it. Her toughest year of change came when she was in 7th grade. She started school in Butzbach, Germany in September and moved with her family in October to Bluford, Illinois where her parents had 30 days vacation to visit with their parents. This meant Sandra had to attend the Bluford grade school for 30 days. Next came a move to Manitou Springs, Colorado and again a month in a school while waiting for a home to live in at Ft. Carson, Colorado. This was a very large junior high and quite a change from the small rural grade school in Bluford, Illinois. One last change was made to move to Ft. Carson and attend the small junior high school to finish 7th grade. Not many people can say they attended four schools in two different countries and two different states in one school year!
Sandra's early years adapting to change prepared her for changes in her career. She has worked at many different types of jobs during her career, starting with working as a "car hop" at a drive-in restaurant during high school years and later as a secretary, a buyer for a manufacturing company, a sales rep for an office supplies business, a teletype operator, a computer programmer, project manager, IT manager with staff of 17 people. With Sandra's background of change, she easily fit into the fast paced life of the high-tech world. Her move to "Silicon Valley" in 1985 led to her biggest challenges and greatest rewards in her career.
Sandra has volunteered at high school career fairs, encouraging young girls to pursue careers in math and science and talked about what life is like in the world of computers and electronics. She believes strongly that anyone can succeed if they only believe they can.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
