Today's Featured Biography
Dave Milne
After living briefly in Georgia for the Army, we have lived in the Midwest (Wisconsin and Illinois), the East (New Jersey), the West (Denver), twice, and Walnut Creek, CA (where we are now.) These moves were triggered by the splitting up of AT&T and the resultant reorganizations. Finally settling in the West, I spent my final five AT&T years in Sales and Info.Systems. I then retired and went to work for a small aeronautical software startup, which became venture-capitalized after a year or so and it was moved to Maryland. Subsequently, I worked for the State of California as a testing & licensing administrator, helped a friend market cheese, acted briefly and did some business consulting. At the request of a city, I eventually formed my own business of experts that tested applicants for Public Safety positions. Under contract to Oakland and Livermore, we tested thousands of applicants over the 10 years that we existed. It was a fulfilling and satisfying post-retirement job. I am now a volunteer at the local 575 bed Muir Medical Center and thoroughly enjoying the challenges and the work.
My life today is filled by our two daughters' families. One of the daughters and husband live with us. The other daughter became a widow at 40yo. So, after going back to the stage of supporting two in college, we have seen the worth of investing in kids. One Grand spent a year in Vietnam as a teacher and the other is getting her Masters in International Affairs at Penn State. #3 Grand is married with a baby and #4 is in her first year of college with an eye toward becoming a teacher. Luckily, we exercised our love of international travel before these family events happened. So now we happily stay close to home pretty much of the time.
Of note, a local friend from Australia, married a Thai woman who was taught, in Chiang Mai, by an OPRFHS Class of 1948 graduate Dr. Betsy Guyer who also was my sister's best friend at OPRFHS. The Guyers as well as our Thai friend, have all passed, but I am friends with her Aussie husband now. Six degrees of separation!
My wife, Kathy, is a singer-musician and an alum of the wonderful, award-winning local chorus WomenSing. The chorus was recognized by Chorus America for their program Youth Inspiring Youth, which we both had a small hand in developing. The program provides grants to young composers for new treble choir music. Kathy is now performing with an Alum Group that focuses on music as a part of healing cancer victims. She also plays in a bell choir and sings in a seasonal Londontown Carollers here in the Bay Area.
It was wonderful to see each of those who attended our 60th! The rest were missed. We think of you often. Having lost several friends this past year, we focus on staying as well as we can be in our eighth decade! Best to you!

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
