Quintessence Abdullah-Patterson
Quintessence Patterson, Indianapolis native, knew at a very young age that she wanted to peruse a
career in television in film as a makeup artist. She began early pursuit of her dreams by enrolling in
cosmetology school as high school junior. Upon her high school graduation she completed cosmetology
school and secured her Master Cosmetology License. She began working in salons, providing hair and
makeup services. Although Quintessence was expected to, and fully intended to peruse a bachelor
degree at a tradition university, the beauty industry excited Quintessence! She traveled to trade shows,
participated in many classes and workshops across the country, facilitated by industry greats to hone
her skills. Through these experiences she determined she wanted to concentrate her talents on
makeup, for the television and film industry.
In 1997, love and marriage found Quintessence relocated to Atlanta, Georgia. Her husband, Darrick
Patterson, who was an aspiring television film and television producer and director at that time, fully
supported and encouraged her to continue her pursuit. He assured her that despite many perceptions,
that a television/film makeup artist was a legitimate profession and would be worth challenge required
to break into the business.
Shortly after relocating to Atlanta, Quintessence began working for MAC Cosmetics. This was her first
official makeup job. While at MAC, Quintessence developed her own sense of artistry. She was inspired
by many talented colleagues and received top notch training. She was exposed to all types of skin
conditions, textures, ethnicities and scenarios that put her skills to the test. She felt confident and
prepared to expand her territory beyond the makeup counter, and began to lend her skills to local
industry events, fashion shows, publications and personalities. Her reputation for professionalism, top
notch customer service and beautiful makeup, rapidly propelled her into the television and film industry,
where she began adding networks and production companies to her resume. Some of her makeup
credits include; CNN, Turner Broadcasting Networks, BET Networks, MTV, Tyler Perry Studios, Lionsgate,
Lifetime, Hallmark, Paramount Pictures and The Oprah Winfrey Network. Additionally, Quintessence
has provided makeup services for many notables such as President Jimmy Carter, Anderson Cooper,
Roseanne Barr, Melissa Rivers, Nia Long, Lenny Kravitz, Tracee Ellis Ross, John Schneider, Victoria Rowell
and many more. Some of her many television and film credits include; Flight, Catching Fire, Mockingjay,
Single Moms Clubs, A Madea Christmas, Identity Thief, The Haves and Have Nots, The MoNique Show,
Love Thy Neighbor, Drop Dead Diva and The Game.
Quintessence is a proud member of the hair and makeup union, Local IATSE 798 based in New York.
She has also provided expertise to publications as a contributor and beauty expert. Most recently,
Quintessence has added producer and entrepreneur to her list of credits. She often works alongside her
husband and together they strive to make their own mark on the television and film industry. One of
her most proud accomplishments is being Mommy to three beautiful babies.
