After graduating from high school, I went to work for Prudential Insuance Company in Vincennes and transferred to Portsmouth, VA in 1959, where I met my future husband. We married and moved to Mahtomedi, MN, a small village just outside St. Paul, transferring again to Prudential there.
Two of my children were born in St. Paul. In 1965 we moved back to Indiana, where we added two more beautiful additions to the family.
In 1968 we ventured to Florida on a vacation. My husband had been to Ft. Myers on leave when he was in the Navy, so we went there and fell in love with the area. The weather was beautiful. With that, we decided to move there. My parents thought we were crazy, and we probably were since all we had was an old 1955 Buick, four children, no jobs and didn't know anyone.
We made it, though. After just surviving for a period of time, my husband and I both got positions with United Telephone of Florida. That's were I stayed for 28 years. Of course, it eventually became Sprint, and I retired from there.
My adventure with United Telephone/Sprint was great. I started out as a secretary, then to Quality Assurance, Marketing, System Designer (trained, traveled, engineering type work in setting up systems and software), technical assistance to our service technisions and finally product management.
I spent my time with United/Sprint from 1971-1989 in Ft. Myers. I was then transferred to the Orlando area in 1989 and worked until I retired in 1999.
We came to Florida in January 1968 because we knew that's where we eventually wanted to retire. Unfortunately, my husband and I divorced after 25 years of marriage; however, I'm still very glad we moved here and am glad to call this my home.
I love to travel, dance, walk, read and spend time with my family and all of my friends.
