Today's Featured Biography
Sheri Lynne Hoffman
I graduated from UMBC in 1991 with a degree in Psychology and Certificate in Personnel and Industrial Relations, and I took CPA-required courses at UMBC and Catonsville Community College for CPA candidacy.
I've worked for the American Psychological Association (APA, located in Washington, DC) in the Finance Department since September 1992. I love working with budgets, cash management and even audits. I am very involved in APA's "Healthy Company" committee and related committees since inception in 2003, and was just named co-chair of the Staff Assessing Rewards Structure Committee of APA (I'm excited about this!). These committees have become my real passion.
While not yet blessed with a husband or children of my own, I very much enjoy being "Aunt Sheri" to my brother's 3 children: Rebecca (2001), Robert (2003), and Leah (2006). My younger brother and family live in Midland, Texas (he is a geologist for an oil company). Midland is quite different from Maryland, and is interesting to visit.
After a good friend died in 2004, I adopted two cats, BC and Brillig. When not doting on my "babies", I enjoy reading and working in my yard and planning what projects I'd like to do around my house (I blame HGTV). I also knit, but only in straight lines (i.e. various sizes of blankets).
I am a die-hard fan of the TV show "24" (I love watching Jack Bauer save the world each season) who can't wait for Season 6 in January. Several people I work with are also addicted to this show, which makes for some good conversations over the copier machine (smile).
Most importantly, I have become aware of and thankful for all that God has done in my life. I became a Christian around 1995. In 2000, I was part of a 10-person team from my church on a missions trip to southern Hungary. In 2001, I went back for 2 months to serve as a "baby missionary" with the two German women serving there. This was a very special time for me; I hope to return someday.
My parents still live in the Bowie home I grew up in. I can still remember riding my bike through the Heather Hills neighborhood, which had fewer cars on the street back then and playing in the woods, which have since been turned into Kohls and Target.
Anyway, that's my 20 years condensed into a couple of paragraphs. Best wishes to all!
P.S. Please write - I'd love to hear from any of my classmates! I've had such fun looking through this website. Still can't believe it has been 20 years ...
