Today's Featured Biography
Chris Schlotterbeck
"Life has taken me down a long and winding road. I have been many places and done many things. I am a Pirate, Poet, and Part-Time Philosopher who now contemplates his own mortality and looks back on his life nostalgically. I have been very, very fortunate. I have , as they say, lived, laughed loved, and been loved. I joined the United States Army right after high school and had the honor and privilege to wear my nations uniform and serve its flag for 20 years, 2 months, and 14 days...but who's counting! During my military career I lived in Germany (it was West Germany then) for 4 years and then in The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for 3 years (3 & 1/2 if you count Gulf War time.) I served in every duty position in line infantry and scout platoons from Scout Rifleman to First Sergeant. I served in the 14th, 16th and 31st Infantry Regiments as well as two tours in the 3d U.S Infantry "The Old Guard"; the Army's official ceremonial unit and escort to the President. (You may have seen us in Arlington National Cemetary or in a ceremony in the National Capital Region.) I also served as an Instructor/Sr. Instructor at NCO Academies, Non-Commission Officer in Charge (NCIOC) of an Air Assault School, as well as a Foreign Military Advisor with the Saudi Arabian military. I was fortunate enough, while I was in the Army, to be afforded the opportunity to attend University full time, for 2 years in order to finish my degree. I received my B.A. in History from Salisbury State University in December of 1989. When I left the Army I went back to school at S.U.N.Y. to purse an M.A. and teaching certificate and then 9-11 occurred. I felt "left out" my country was at war and I wanted to do my part. So...I got a job as a Defense Contractor and spent the next 12 years working for the army as a civilian. Ironically, I went to more Army posts and spent more time in combat zones as a civilian than I did as a soldier. I married my first love in December of 1981 and we were married for 25 years. I have two grown sons, both better men than their "old man'; no man could ask for more that this from his children. Additionally, I have six grandchildren. In 2011 I married the 3d, and whom i very much expect to be the last, love of my life (My second love was not so much "the one that got away" but "the one I just let slip away".) She is a Canadian and was very insistant that I live in same country, go figure! And so... I now find myself a resident of "the great white north". I am and avid reader and am usually into 5-6 books at a time. I love the places that books can take you without ever leaving home. I especially love old books, the was they feel and smell. I love the things that one finds in old books, lists, notes, pictures, etc. The flotsam and jetsam of human existence. I love good food, great wine and interesting conversation. But what I really love is travel. I have been exceptionally fortunate to have been able to visit 30 countries and 41 U.S. states in my lifetime. In fact I have spent 19 of the last 40 years living outside of the United States. I am a Master Mason and a member of The Veteran's of Foreign Wars, The American Legion and The Royal Canadian Legion. I am a certified first aid instructor, a certified pool operator, and I possess both a security services and investigators license, I am currently pursuing my sommeliers certification. Wilderness First Aid and Ballroom dancing are on my "list of things to do" in 2020. So...that's me in a nut shell. if you took the time to read this I thank you. (though i am not sure anyone else on here even fills this part out or if they do that anyone actually reads them.) For those who knew me in high school you are probably saying to yourself, "that's not the guy I remember". For those of you who didn't know me it suffices to say that I was the quiet, self conscious, self doubting, lacking in self confidence guy who assumed that he just wasn't well liked. Looking back I don't think it was that I wasn't liked it was that I didn't give people a chance to know me. So here I am on the back side of life's hill. I reckon that I probably have twelve to fifteen good years left. I am not done living but i realize most of life's moments that takes ones breath away have come and gone. But, you know what, if i were to get hit by a bus tomorrow....I am ok with that. Life has been very, very good.. I am a very lucky man. No longer possessing "boyish" good looks I must now rely on charm, wit, and intellect. Boy am i in trouble! To be continued....."

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
