Claudine Bachmann-Knott Harris

After high school, I went to UMBC and majored in Music/Visual Performing Arts since I heard the rumor you had to have a 3.5 GPA to get into nursing school. That was not so. I graduated from University of Maryland at Baltimore with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1981. I have worked as a registered nurse for over 23 years, 7 in critcal care and 15 in emergency. I have not returned to school. Of course there is the minor continuing education nurses have to do to keep updated with classes, seminars, and conferences but that's it.
I lived in Hawaii for 16 1/2 years, 1985 to 2001. I loved it there. Except for being very expensive, it is a paradise with its weather, central mountains, waterfalls, double rainbows, and crystal clear, blue ocean. The culture is different too. It is a very spritual place. The people live "aloha", giving unconditional love, and "ohana", treating each other like family. I went into a bit of a culture shock returning to Maryland. But, Maryland is cheaper and home again now.
I have not always made the best choices in life. I have been thrice married and thrice divored. First, I married at 16, the summer after the 10th grade to a violent, abusive, young man. I spent my junior year at Brooklyn Park High School and left him after 13 hellish months. Second, I married at 19 to a 100% disabled Viet Nam vet who was partial paraplegic. With time, I found he was more sick in the head and emotionally abusive. I left him after 2 years 10 months. I married again at 27 in 1985 in Hawaii to the man who becam the father of my two sons. He is an alcoholic whose disease progressed. We divorced. But, he gave me my greatest gift in life, my sons aged 18 and 12.
David, 18, is a senior at Northeast High School and on the football team. JC goes to George Fox Middle School. We live in a fixer upper house in Pine Haven in Pasadena. I have been pretty happy as a single parent. The three of us do well together.
I am not rich financially. I am rich in the family, friends, and many blessings I have had in my life. I have had some hardships and trials along the way but I have learned lessons and grown stonger from them. May God bless you.
