Today's Featured Biography
Karen Clark
After college I began teaching H.S.English and Drama at St. Clair Shores. It's hard to believe now, but my salary the first year was $5,000, and I was able to pay off all my school loans that year. I was free to do what I really wanted, and that was to volunteer to teach in a poverty area.
I went to Kentucky, to a small Catholic high school in the hills. I learned to ride a horse, use a wringer washer, eat beans and cornbread, and say "y'all". At the first parent-teacher conference, I met my future husband. His parents had died, and as the eldest he was guardian for four teen-aged siblings. Three of them lived with us when we married two years later in 1967. We stayed in Kentucky for three more years until my husband was transferred to Midland Michigan with the Dow Corning Corp. We raised our two daughters in Midland. We have four grandchildren.
My mother died in '97, my brother David died suddenly in '98, and my dad died in '99. In 1976, to celebrate the Bicentennial, all nine of us Clark kids got together for a reunion. We had so much fun we decided to keep doing it, and we had week long reunions for years. Now that our kids are gone, it's just the sibs and lots of laughs at the get togethers. Sometimes our conversation turns to HHS and Mrs. Hosking (she taught 8 of us), Mr. Jameson, Doc Cooley, Miss Warner (she also taught my mother) and Mr. Scheoneich. I'm grateful to all of them.
When I was 44, I went to Graduate School for a degree in psychology, and began working as a therapist. In '99 I spent a summer at U-Mass Hospital in Worcester as an intern, learning Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction. I continue to teach Mindfulness classes at the clinic where I work.
I am losing my hearing and I was ready to quit working when I discovered the brand new technology in hearing aids. With this help I am still doing group work...and I hope to be able to hear YOU at the reunion. I am looking forward to seeing all of you.

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
