Today's Featured Biography

Sharon Erickson Barsness

Graduated from University of Minnesota with a BS degree in Elementary Education. Moved with my husband to Rochester, MN where I taught second grade at Harriet Bishop School. Once we had children I was a stay at home Mom and chose to volunteer in the community. I volunteered in the public schools 1/2 day for each of our children through high school. In the 1980's I started subbing as a secretary in the high schools and still do.
I met my husband at the U of M the first quarter and we were married before my Junior year. He graduated from IT that year and finished with a Master's Degree in Applied Math. He taught math at the U before he was hired by IBM here in Rochester. He retired in 1993.
Our daughter Ann graduated from John Marshall High School. She was active in cross country, basketball and track. She went to St.Olaf College. She graduated in chemistry and went to the University of Iowa where she got a PhD in inorganic chemistry. She met her husband there and they now live in Delaware and have three children.
Our daughter Linda graduated from John Marshall. She was active in Volleyball, basketball and track. She was all-american in volleyball and track. She still holds the state high jump record of 5'10" in Minnesota. She had a full ride 5 year scholarship to play volleyball at the University of Nebraska which finished in the Final 4 four of the five years she was there. She got a bachelors degree and masters degree in Excersise physiology. She lives in San Diego with her husband and two boys.
Eric graduated from JM. He was active in cross country, swimming and track. He graduated with an Honors degree in Computers from Iowa State. He was hired by IBM which helped him get a Master's degree in Computer from the University of Minnesota. He currently has 50 plus patents with IBM.
I have been active in AAUW, Volunteers in Education, Sons of Norway and have served on several committees for the School Board.
My husband and I love to walk and read, bike and camp in our pup tent, and travel.
