Today's Featured Biography
Laura Dickey
Two weeks after graduating from NHHS, I started at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. I've been in the Coast Guard ever since. I'm still single and don't have any kids.
The Coast Guard's kept me moving - 9 assignments in 18 years, including 5 ship tours, taking me to Charleston, SC (twice), Portsmouth, VA (twice), Savannah, and Mobile, AL. I also did a one year tour as the second in command of USCG Patrol Forces Southwest Asia in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
The Coast Guard sent me to law school at UNC from 1999-2002 and unlike the other armed services, CG lawyers can do other things. I practiced CG law for a couple of years and then went back to operations. I'm currently the commanding officer of a 210 foot CG cutter (just like the DILIGENCE in downtown Wilmington) based out of Cape May, NJ, (where they do not have sweet tea or grits!)
