Today's Featured Biography
Roberta Wickman Klehr
Seems like yesterday I graduated from JHS and then onto Queens College. When I was a freshman, I met Charles(Bert)Klehr, a Junior at US Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point. Bert graduated 1957.We married the end of my Junior year,1958. I graduated 1959 with a BA in Early Childhood Education. Cindy was born Jan 1960, Chuck 1962, Chris 1965 and Steve 1970 and I have been a stay-at-home MOM ever since. Bert gave up the sea and became a Plant Engineer for Nabisco till 1990. We have lived in NY, NJ, MO, VA, CA, IL and now Wilmington,NC for retirement. I taught tiny tots in Saint Louis and volunteered at Brookfield Zoo in Chicgo. I now talk turtle at NC Aquarium Fort Fisher and I am also in the mentoring program. I have always taught but just didn't get paid for it.
I like to sew, make baskets, do crafts and faux paint. I am pass VP of Wilmington Newcomers, Pres of ACT II (graduate group of Newcomers, Secretary and crew person in US Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 10-01, member of US Cafe Fear Power Squadron,and active in our Homeowners Assoc. Bert and I have a 19ft Grady White and enjoy our waterfront community Dolphin Bay.Bert is a Shriner and we work to raise money for the Shriners Children's Hospitals.
Our children did us proud. Cindy graduated from William Woods College, Fulton, MO. Summa Cum Laude and has Jessica 20, Bryan 18 and Grant 16 in Overland Park KS. Chuck graduated from US Merchant Marine Academy, an Engineer like his Father. He lives in NJ with His wife Tracey and Emelie 12, Danielle 10 and Charles 7. Chris died in 1977. Steve graduated from Valpariso as an Engineer and lives with his wife in Mission Viejo,CA.
Bert and I just celebrated our 47th Anniversary. I love to travel and enjoy cruises the most. New Zealand and Australia was our last cruise in Feb.
