Today's Featured Biography
Phyliss Curtis Reagan
For 48 years, I have been married to Jim Reagan, who recently retired as Executive Director of the Austin Symphony. We live just north of Dallas in an active adult golfing and country club community called Heritage Ranch. We have one daughter, Gem-Ann, who also lives in the Dallas area with her husband, John.
I attended Phillips College, and then studied art for 13 years at Swan Studio. I worked for the City of Amarillo for several years in in a variety of departments, and later substitute taught in the private school our daughter attended. When she was in college at TCU, I subbed in the public schools for three years.
Being a mother has been my most important accomplishment. I have always been very involved in my daughter's many activities, including dance classes, 14 years of Suzuki violin study, as well as 11 years of piano lessons. Gem-Ann continues to play her violin, and has performed twice in front of President and Mrs. Bush at our church, Highland Park United Methodist Church, where they are also members. Gem-Ann has worked in marketing and design for many years and volunteers in the community, where she has served on the Junior League of Dallas Board of Directors, as well as in leadership positions in several other organizations.
In addition to being a mother, I volunteered for many years for a number of groups. I served on the Amarillo Symphony Guild Board of Directors, the Lone Star Ballet auxiliary Board and belonged to Art Alliance. I was also active in my Methodist church in Amarillo.
Besides painting, my other interests have been needlepoint, home decorating and hosting tea parties. For ten years, we went to New York City every year, where we attended afternoon teas at well-known venues and saw many Broadway plays and musicals.
When we were younger, we traveled extensively, both domestically and abroad, and look forward to more travel in our retirement.
