Today's Featured Biography
William Douglas, Jr.
Ray was born on November 19, 1974, the week before Thanksgiving in Roanoke Community Hospital in Roanoke, VA. “Old Man” is what his father affectionately calls him. He was educated in the Kingsport, TN City School System, attending Abraham Lincoln Elementary, John Sevier Middle, and Dobyns-Bennett High Schools. Because of his love for education, he attended University of Tennessee at Chattanooga and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science: Legal Studies and a Minor in Communication: Public Relations. He continued his education at the Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Louisville, KY and earned a Master of Divinity degree.
Because of his love for people, his journey indicates this passion. He served as a youth minister at Broadway Temple AME Zion Church for 3.5 years and the founding director of the Saving America’s Youth Program (S.A.Y Yes!), an after school program which targeted at risk youth. In June 2001, he became the pastor of the Price Memorial AME Zion Church, Roanoke, VA. While pastoring, he served as a Flex Chaplain at Carilion Clinic (formerly at Roanoke Memorial and Roanoke Community Hospitals). He was also a volunteer chaplain at Lewis-Gale Hospital in Salem, VA. Ray became the Vice President of Marketing and Recruitment for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Virginia in 2005 and quickly forged partnerships to create in house publications to save the organization money. He served on many boards and organizations in the community. During this time, he became a member of the Alpha Kappa Lambda Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
Upon locating to the Metropolitan Washington, DC area in October 2007 he was a Trainer for Leading Through Change, Inc., a minority women-owned government contracting agency working for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. In November 2008, he became a part of the ministerial staff of John Wesley AME Zion Church officially as Youth Minister and Associate Minister and serves in that role currently. In May 2011, he was given a paper appointment to begin the Deliverance Temple AME Zion Church located in Southwest DC as its organizing pastor.
In the early winter months of 2010, January, His Queen to be became an inticate part of his life during one of the most traumatic times of her life, the death of her father. Even though “no” was the response at first, I said yes and will say yes for the rest of my life. Nicole has become my biggest cheerleader, friend, supporter, confidant, and encourager. She is the one to whom I say yes!
On Sunday, June 24, 2012, Ray stood before over 1000 guest as he joined in Holy Matrimony with his best friend and partner in ministry, formerly, Dr. Nicole A. Johnson. Currently, Ray and Nicole are anticipating the opportunity to become parents; they are just waiting for God to bless the womb.

Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
