Today's Featured Biography
Herb Hurst
Joined the Navy within weeks of graduation. Lived in So Cal for 13 years where I graduated from Cal State. Moved back to Memphis where I lived for the next 12 years before moving here to Houston. I was a jazz disc jockey for several years then it was into computer software where I spent the rest of my working life as an analyst, designer, database administrator, etc, mainly for NASA contractors at JSC. Retired now, I sell books on the internet for & manage a friends of the library bookstore, foster animals for a local shelter, & study film, jazz, & the American Songbook. I went to WSHS for just one year so, if you happen to remember me at all, it might be as the tenor sax player in a group that included Bill Rolen & Al Stamps from our class. Al has posted a picture of us on the website that, for a reason I don’t remember, doesn’t include George Tidwell who was our trumpet player & who has been & still is a highly-respected musician in Nashville.
I’m taking care of an ailing mother so I won’t be able to attend the reunion but I’d like you all to know that I’ve always been proud to have graduated from White Station & it’s been a thrill just to see your names again.
I’m not much on pictures of myself so I don’t have much to choose from. The one I’ve sent was taken last summer. The two young women are my nieces.
A cherry-coke toast to the long-departed Toddle House!
