Kathryn West Mallory
Do you remember the math problems from grade school?The one where if train a leaves from--- and travels x mph and train b leaves......Where will they meet? I always thought what a stupid question, who cares. Funny, I married a man who did that for a living after college.Stephen worked for the Burlington Northern Railroad as a train dispatcher, and solved that problem many times in an 8 hour shift in the pre-computerized days of old.
He than began another phase of his career with the railroad, and we started moving a lot.
After moving every few years, (our oldest son attended 3 high schools) we settled in Vancouver,WA. By this time, all he needed was a computer, company car and an airport near by.
We decided that home would always be the house we built on 26 acres until he retired.
I bred,trained, and rode APHA horses (paints)and worked with 4H. In summers we camped and rode in the Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, and St. Helens wilderness areas.
Our children Paul (born 1969) Wesley (1973) and Wendi (1981) married and finally gave us 6 grandkids.
They like to come whenever they can and enjoy 4 wheelers on our property.
Stephen retired in October 2001, and we started trying to decide where to spend the rest of our lives. We thought Texas, but love WA in the summers so much that we finally just bought a winter home in Temple Terrace, Fl.
Our son Wesley got us involved in two very different businesses there. The first is a tech firm he and 2 friends started. The second is a tile and stone business that another friend needed some partners. We opened it in 2014.
Since these are both in the Tampa area, we decided to winter there. A great side benefit is Busch Gardens, just minutes down from our house. I go weekly to ride the roller coasters, my husband doesn't even like to watch.
Our son Paul retired from the US Air Force after 25 years, and his family is also in the neighborhood while he is finishing a masters degree at USF in Tampa. We ride together .
Our daughter Wendi and her husband live in Vancouver and take care of our property and animals in our absences.
