Johnnie Porter Chaplain Johnnie B. Porter B.S. M. Div, M.A.C.M
Johnnie Burnette Porter Hails from Tyler, and is a graduate of Robert E. Lee High class of 1990 in Tyler, Texas. While at Robert E. Lee, he played Football all four years. He is the son of Ms. Lillian Porter and Bishop Cornelius Fletcher Porter, Ecclesiastical Prelate of Texas Lone Star Jurisdiction of the Churches of God in Christ. Johnnie is the husband of Robyn J. Porter of Baltimore Maryland, and father of a young son, Evan Burnette Porter. Elder Porter is an alumni of Texas College in Tyler Texas, and since 1996 He is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Incorporated and did serve two years as president of the Beta Phi undergrad Chapter while at Texas College. In 1999, Elder Porter graduated from Texas College in Tyler Texas with a B.S. in Music/Voice. While at Texas College, he served in various leadership positions, including a Juvenile detention Counselor. He served as Junior Class President, Student Senate President, and Student Government Association Vice President While at Texas College he also served three years as Director of the Texas College Gospel Choir, and one year as Co-Director of the Texas College Concert & Gospel Merger Choir that toured throughout the country. Johnnie also was an active member of the Texas College Jazz Ensemble. He worked locally in his Father’s congregation as the Minister of Music at Porter’s Chapel Church of God in Christ, which opened doors for him to serve in the National Church of God in Christ Music Department as State Minister of Music under the direction of National Department Leaders such as Mattie Moss Clark, Lavonia Whitley, and Iris Stevenson. He is a composer, and musician, who has served and assisted various congregations in order to help their ministry through music and worship.
Johnnie matriculated at I.T.C. Charles H. Mason Seminary in 1999, and became a member of New Horizons Church of God in Christ under the leadership of former Dean of Mason Seminary Dr. Oliver J. Haney. Johnnie served as one of the Ministers of Music, Editor in Chief of the Newsletter staff, Ministerial & Elders Counsel, Sunday School Teacher, and also director of the New Horizon’s Orchestra & Ensemble. From 2001-2003 while in School, Johnnie served as a Certified Pre-K Lead Teacher at Hillside Learning Center and Tara Christian Academy both in Atlanta, GA. In 2001 Johnnie was ordained elder by Bishop C.F. Porter in Tyler, TX and continued to serve under the ministry of Dr. Oliver J. Haney at New Horizons C.O.G.I.C.
In 2003 with the authorization of his pastor, Johnnie was allowed to accept the opportunity to work with the ministry of Pastor Keith McGrew at the Community of Joy Church of God in Christ. He not only served in an administrative role, but also functioned as a leader in the liturgical worship.
Johnnie completed his Masters Degree (M.Div) in Religious Psychology in Pastoral Care & Counseling and his Masters of Arts degree in Christian Music-“Concentrating on the Study of Liturgical Worship” (M.A.C.M.)
Johnnie has since worked as a chaplain at Saint Joseph's Health System Atlanta, GA (Hospital), the Veteran’s Hospital in Atlanta, the Veteran’s Hospital in Dallas Texas, and Bonham Texas, (Volunteer Chaplain) at VITAS Hospice, Chaplain for Hospice Advantage, and is presently a Spiritual Care Coordinator/ Chaplain at Crossroads Hospice in Tucker, GA.
Johnnie and his family's current place of ministry is New Bethesda Christian Ministries Church of God in Christ, Where he is founder and Pastor. Johnnie continues to maintain an active membership and fellowship with Kelly Lake Church of God in Christ under the Leadership of Dr. Norman O. Harper of Atlanta, GA. He is the C.E.O and founder of My Choice Services Marketing Group, Co-Founder of The E.X.C.E.L Group, which is mentor program for teens and youths.
Above all, he loves God, and his worship and relationship with God is held above his highest joys which are his family, church, God’s people and friends.
