Today's Featured Biography
Melissa Barber
Just after graduating high school, I attended the University of Washington studying biology, science and nursing. I became a member of the Chi Omega sorority, volunteered at the UW medical center and did work study in a prostate cancer research lab. In 2000, I transferred to Seattle University where I then graduated with my Bachelors in Science and Nursing and began my career as a pediatric nurse at Seattle Children's Hospital.
After 5 years at Children's, I am currently a Charge nurse, helping to run our 77 bed unit, and serving on various committees. As a side job I am working as a staff nurse in an assisted living facility, helping to educate and reform the care staff, as well as care for the residents.
In my spare time over the years I have had a passion for travel and experiencing different cultures. I spent a month in Urubamba, Peru partnering with local community leaders to improve their health care system and teaching classes in remote villages on prevention/treatment of many illness that plague them today.
For fun I have visited: Paris, Berlin, Amsterdam, Miami, Hawaii, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan, Puerto Rico, Bahamas, Huston, Canada, Cusco, The Amazon-Puerto Maldonado, Machu Picchu, Calca, Pisac, and Oyatatambo.
I am currently working on purchasing a home, and having a new addition to my family a puppy!
