Today's Featured Biography
DeMaris Meredith
Spent 11 years working for Estée Lauder Companies. My career included working as a hairstylist and make-up artist in Wenatchee, Portland Ore. and New York. I worked my way up the corporate ladder to a job with the Estée Lauder Companies from 1985-96. I also worked for the ABC Television Network, doing the make-up for Prime Time Live (I did Diane Sawyer's make-up), One Life to Live, Good Morning America, ABC World News Now and ABC World News This Morning. My career with Estée Lauder ended in 1996, when a doctor told me to have a mammogram. He should have told me to have a Breast Coil Imaging MRI. After three operations between 1996 and 2007, I now focus on what I can do.
I attended Shoreline College from 1970-1972. I worked in interior design. I loved the career in Seattle, but wanted to live in Wenatchee. My mother kindly suggested that I should go to nursing school in Wenatchee. I felt her suggestion was a good idea.
The first thing I had to do, though, was to live my dream and travel. I traveled to various countries around the world. The places I visited were: Hawaii, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Thailand, Tehran, Rome, Pisa, Switzerland, Paris, Belgium and London. I had the best time. I learned that traveling is the best education a person can have.
After returning to Wenatchee in 1978, I started the nursing program at WVC. I wanted to help people to LOOK GOOD AND FEEL GOOD. In order to do this, I had to switch majors from the nursing program to the cosmetology program. I graduated in 1980. I was a hair stylist and make-up artist until 1985.
I returned to college in 1998. I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Communication, and my Master's Degree in Higher Education, both from St. John's University.
I love to go to Lake Placid, NY in upstate New York. It reminds me of Lake Chelan.
I live in Forest Hills, New York. I am five blocks away from the West Side Tennis Club where the U.S. Open Tennis tournament was played.
I am so proud to have been raised in Wenatchee. All 260 of our classmates in the Class of 1970 all got along. I LOVE MY LIFE.
