Sergeant Major (Ret) Stephen G. Wilson hails from Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. He entered the United States Army in 1973, attended Basic Training at Fort Dix, New Jersey and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Sergeant Major (Ret) Wilson’s assignments include three tours in Germany, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Kosovo. He served as an Armor Crewman in Company E, 1st Battalion, 1st Training Brigade, Tank Commander and Drill Sergeant in Company A, 3rd Battalion, 1st Training Brigade at the United States Army Armor Center, Fort Knox, Kentucky. In Bamberg, Germany he served as Driver, Loader, Gunner, Tank Commander and Company Operations Sergeant in H Company, 2nd Squadron, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment. At Fort Carson, Colorado he served as Platoon Sergeant and First Sergeant for Company A, 2nd Battalion, 34th Armor. In Hohenfels, Germany he instructed the Armor/Cavalry Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course. At Fort Riley, Kansas he served as Platoon Sergeant for Companies A and C and First Sergeant for Company B, 3rd Battalion, 37th Armor. At Readiness Group Redstone in Huntsville, Alabama he served as an On-Site Assistor/Trainer with the Alabama, Mississippi and Tennessee National Guard. He served as Lessons Developer and Writer within the Directorate of Training and Development Department, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Fort Bliss, Texas for Basic and Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Courses. Upon returning to Hohenfels, Germany he served as Operations Sergeant Major for 1st Battalion, 4th Infantry (OPFOR). In Vilseck, Germany he served as Operations Sergeant Major for 3rd Brigade, First Infantry Division and Operations Sergeant Major for Task Force Falcon 1B, Kosovo. His last assignment was instructing/facilitating the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy, Military Operations Division at Fort Bliss, Texas.
Sergeant Major (Ret) Wilson’s education includes the Basic Leadership Development Course, the Armor Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, Armor Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, First Sergeant Course, Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officers Course and the United States Army Sergeants Major Course. He is a graduate of El Paso Community College with an Associate of Arts Degree and graduated Magna Cum Laude from Regis University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Arts with a concentration in Elementary Education.
Sergeant Major (Ret) Wilson’s awards include the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal (4th Award), the Army Commendation Medal (3rd OLC), the Army Achievement Medal (2nd OLC), the Good Conduct Medal (10th Award), the National Defense Service Medal (w/Bronze Star), the Southwest Asia Service Medal (w/3 Bronze Stars), the Kosovo Campaign Medal (w/Bronze Star), the Humanitarian Service Medal (w/3 OLC), the NCOPD Ribbon (w/#4), the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Ribbon (w/#3), the NATO Medal (Kosovo), the Kuwaiti Liberation Medal from Saudi Arabia, and the Kuwait Liberation Medal.
From the Armor Community SGM Wilson received the Order of Saint George (Bronze Medallion), the Order of the Spur (Silver), the German Armed Forces Badge of Marksmanship (Schutzenschnur) (Silver).
Upon retirement SGM (Ret) Wilson served as Communications Director, Vice President and President of the United Methodist Men’s Group in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
