Today's Featured Biography
Craig Schneider
Went on Young Judaea Yearcourse program (with Steve Pohoryles) after graduation, and then to Boston University. Majored in English and Religion.
Moved to Israel, lived on Kibbutz Ketura near Eilat, served in the Israeli army, and stayed until 1989. During this time married my wife Tammy (Tamar Kliger) whom I met at BU.
Upon returning from Israel, we moved to the Boston area and have been there ever since. My first job was in a bank doing second-mortgage lending while I put myself through graduate school. I received an MBA from BU with a concentration in public management.
I was then accepted into the Presidential Management Fellows Program and began my career with the then-Health Care Financing Administration (now the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services). During the two-year management training program, I rotated through a variety of positions, including serving on Senator Kennedy's staff working on President Clinton's health reform bill (uh, I don't think it passed).
I remained with CMS for 14 years, holding several positions in beneficiary services, the Regional Administrator's office, outreach, quality improvement, and provider reimbursement.
In 1998 I began a Ph.D program in health policy at the Brandeis University Heller School, and received my degree in 2004.
Five years ago I left the federal government and started my current job as Director of Healthcare Policy at the Massachusetts Health Data Consortium. I'm responsible for the discussion forums that we hold with chief information officers and other executives to improve health information technology and thereby quality and efficiency of care. We also hold several major conferences a year for which I design the educational content. I also do a fair amount of public speaking on health IT, improving transitions of care from one setting to another, and pay-for-performance. I am on the Board of the National Association of Health Data Organizations.
My daughter Sarah is a junior at Gann Academy, a non-denominational Jewish high school in Waltham, MA. My son is in sixth grade at the Solomon Schechter Day School in Newton, and will become a Bar Mitzvah in June. Tammy has been raising the kids, and doing lots of volunteer work, and has begun a small home business running charity auctions.
I am Vice President of Temple Hillel B'nai Torah in West Roxbury, MA.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
