Ronald Whitehead
Ronald S. Whitehead, a certified Project Management Professional, with 40 years experience in project management, team building, and business development in business and government, is president of his own company, M42Orion, Inc., providing global and USA project management training and education. Courses include introductory project management, risk, cost and scheduling, project leadership, executive level management, portfolio management, advanced project management and Project Management Professional (Project Management Institute) training for a diverse spectrum of business enterprises, corporations and government agencies. Since 1995, clients included AT&T, Boeing, United Health Group, Petronas Oil and Gas, Nippon Telephone and Telegraph, Sprint, Motorola, ABB, Underwriters Laboratories, The Hartford, Vanguard, Shell, United Parcel Service, Chrysler, Ford, Oman Defence Ministry, Government of the UAE, NCR Corporation, Compaq, Dell, and over 30 others in the United States and 25 countries on five continents. Since 1995, Mr. Whitehead has been affiliated with Educational Services Institute, International, The Dayton Group, Inc., in Dayton, Ohio, and other companies as a senior instructor, providing course instruction for 12 diverse project management courses. He served as an adjunct assistant professor and a consultant for Wright State University, Raj Soin College of Business &Administration. Projects managed included developing the new National Aviation Hall of Fame (NAHF) facility in Dayton, Ohio, and he serves as management consultant to the NAHF Board and Staff. He served as a member of the Project Management Institute Knowledge & Wisdom Committee.
Previously, as manager of the Midwest Region Office for Vought Aircraft Company/LTV Aerospace and Defense Company, Mr. Whitehead was responsible for overall operation of the Dayton, Ohio mid-west regional office, where he identified new business opportunities, developed business strategies, managed and led aerospace projects, and assisted project selection teams. He coordinated contract activities of the U.S. Air Force, NASA, industry, and Vought teams. As a recognized expert in project management, he participated on numerous boards and task forces that recommended methods for improvement of the U.S. Department of Defense acquisition processes and contract practices.
Mr. Whitehead completed 22 years of service in the U.S. Air Force with the rank of lieutenant colonel. At Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, he served as program manager and project manager on several major aircraft programs, such as the AC-130U Gunship (Spectre) and V22 Osprey. As a program manager for Special Operations he led staffs of 55 professional procurement managers and engineers; prepared system concepts, budgets, schedules, and strategies for billions of dollars programs; and negotiated contracts and agreements. He also served as a Pentagon staff officer and as a director of personnel at several U.S. and overseas posts. As a project manager for developing educational programs and on-the-job training systems for the Air Force, he helped develop methods still in use.
Mr. Whitehead has a Master of Science in management from The George Washington University and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from The Citadel. He is co-editor (Cleland, Gallagher, Whitehead) of The Military Project Manager’s Handbook, McGraw-Hill, New York, New York, 1993.
