Today's Featured Biography
Karen Grimson Bryant
I was born near Sydney, Australia. I attended school there through the very beginning of 5th Form (11th Grade). We start school the middle of January as that is the end of our summer months. I only attended 6 weeks of 5th Form in Australia before we moved to Florida, March 1st, 1976. I did not want to come with my parents as my dad took a position at Bradford Marin in Ft Lauderdale. I was not allowed to remain in Australia as you had to be self-supporting, and I was still in school. In Australia we are allowed to leave school at the end of 4th Form(10th Grade) so we can go to work but if you intend on going to University or Technical College you had to remain in school. I had planned on continuing my education therefore I had to remain with my parents. We arrived in Florida the beginning of March 1976, but I did not want to be here, so I refused to leave the house. It took my parents till mid-April to get me back into school. By the time I began my classes at CCHS I only had 6 weeks of 11th Grade here, so I had a total of 12 weeks of 11th Grade. I had a very hard time adjusting as we wore uniforms in Australia, so everyone was on an even platform plus it was all girls. Boys and girls are separated going into high school, so they concentrate on their studies. When I went to school here it was quite an adjustment, 1. because there were boys in the school and 2. because there were no uniforms, so I felt very different from everyone else because of what I wore. I had also completed most of my classes in Australia that are required over here as they are further advanced with school curriculum. I therefore ended up with 80% elective classes. I was Not a very good student in Australia, but I graduated here with Straight A's. I always thought that was pretty funny, but they had no idea what classes I was taking over here just that I got straight A's. I didn’t have very many friends in High School except MaryRose San Filippo and Donna Taylor (Webb). People seemed to be more interested in my accent instead of getting to know me, so I shied away from everyone except in my sewing classes.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
