Erin Hertzberger Brandy

After graduation, I attended FSU, planning to major in anthropology. ¾ of the way through, I changed my major to Classics, since that department’s dig was in Tuscany versus Anthro’s in St. Augustine – a no brainer! After getting a bachelor’s in Greek & Latin at FSU in 1981, I started a master’s program in Archaeology at Bryn Mawr but gave it the heave-ho after 1 semester. I was an under-employed bum for a little bit then fell into a job at PBCC, Palm Beach Gardens Campus in 1983. I worked in a remedial lab for about 6 years and then was put in charge of the computer and phone systems for about 9 years. In ‘98, I decided to beat the FL heat and move to the North Georgia Mountains. I taught computer science for 2 years at North Georgia Technical College but decided not to renew my contract after my mom was diagnosed with terminal cancer, as I wanted to I spend time with her. My mom passed in 2000. I did the under-employed bum thing again and in 2002 wound up in my present position – providing technical support for the Gilmer County School System.

Although 2000 was a bad year because my mom died, it was also a good year because I became good friends with and eventually life-partner to Lydia Bassetti. Although we met in Ellijay, Lydia is a low-down Leonard Lancer, Class of ’76, and her parents still live in Lake Worth. She is a massage therapist and has a 21-year old daughter, Rikki, from a previous marriage. Together we have two 4-legged furry kids of the canine variety. Taylor is a 2-year old Shih Tzu and Oreo is a 7-year old Jack Russell mix.

My hobbies include anything to do with dinosaurs or ancient Romans, reading, walking, tinkering with my home computer equipment, and genealogy.

p.s. If you're wondering about the last name: Hertzberger was my stepfather and Brandy was my birthfather. I took my original name back in 1983.
