Wayne Whitesell

In my senior year of high school I began working at the College Hill Print Shop for my co-op class with Mr. Nutting. After graduation I continued working there until July of 1968 when I began a three and a half year stint in the US Army Air Defense Command as a radar operator at a Nike Hercules Missile Base. After leaving the military I continued my career in printing at a small company in Waterloo called Action Print Center which quickly turned into a nation wide business forms manufacturer (Professional Office Services Inc.) providing peg board accounting systems  for doctor and dental offices. I started as a press operator but as we grew in size, I took on the roles of pressroom foreman to plant superintendent to upper middle management.  During my time in management I helped oversee the construction, equipment purchases, hiring and training of production personnel in two satellite business form plants as well as at the home office in Waterloo. The company had expanded from five employees in 1972 to over three hundred employees when I left them in 1991 to begin my own company. (But I am getting ahead of the story.) I was literally married to my job. Our growth was so explosive that keeping up with the work was all that I could eat, sleep and think about.  In 1986 I had a life changing experience. I became a Christian. On March 30th 1986, Easter Sunday, I went forward during morning service and accepted God's gift of salvation through Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. My life changed that day. Later on that year, at that church, I met my future wife.  I went from being a bachelor to marrying my wonderful wife in 1987. In 1990 we had our only child, a son. After nineteen years with POS, I was burnt out so in 1991 just three months after our son was born, I left my corporate executive position and, trusting God, started my own company. I cared deeply for my former employer (and still do), and did not want to in any way look like I was infringing on their business so I began my company doing printing for the Federal government and local area businesses. We, my wife and I, have been doing that for twenty five years now and it has been a dream come true. We were able to have the time to watch and enjoy seeing our son grow up, go through another fine public school system (Denver Community), and watch him pursue his dream of becoming a mechanical engineer. He now works as a design engineer with a manufacturer, supplying machinery for the oil well drilling industry in Oklahoma and other surrounding states. I have traveled from the east coast to the west coast, from the gulf of Mexico to the plains of Saskatchewan  Canada and have found no other place that compares to our own Cedar Valley. We have, I believe, some of the finest schools America has to offer right here in Iowa. And because I grew up in a loving home, nurtured by a community that really cares for it's kids, I have been able, in a small way, to have an impact in a small part of this great country we call home.
