With that in mind let's get started! A key ingredient to the success of our website/events is our classmates ... YOU! We Want/Need You! On Saturday - July 11, 2015 - we had another very successful 45th at the Memphis Rock-N-Soul Museum! CLICK HERE for photos! On Saturday - August 7, 2010 - we had a very successful 40-Year Reunion at the Lichterman Nature Center with "more than 150" attendees! Today's Featured Biography
Tyrus Legge, Jr.
After departing dear old Messick, I attended the University of Memphis and received a Bachelor of Science in Education. I then went on to teach mathematics at Lanier Jr. High which is in Whitehaven. After 14 years there, I transferred to Wooddale Jr. High, and then finished my teaching career at Wooddale High. I spent a couple of years teaching interim positions at Wooddale and at White Station. I taught all levels of math--7th grade on up to Geometry and Algebra II.
Throughout my life I have always been active with church music-at Christ the King Lutheran, Lord of Life Lutheran, and the last ten years I have been the Assistant Organist/Choirmaster at St. Mary's Episcopal Cathedral in downtown Memphis. Four years ago I began my newest career as an Administrative Assistant AKA Director of Communications. I produce all the newsletters, posters, bulletin announcements, and service liturgies. It's like running a mini FedExOffice!!!!!!!!
I guess gardening is one of my hobbies, but I keep trying to find ways to simplify all the maintenance. My passion is running and biking. I finally put the St Jude Marathon under my belt in December of 2009, but I will be sticking to the half-marathon this year!
My partner is Gene Hayden, who is in interior design at Samuel's Interiors. We have a chocolate toy poodle, CoCo. We are both active at the Cathedral where he serves as an acolyte and lay eucharistic minister.
My mother at age 92 is hale and healthy, still maintaining her home. She lives around the corner from us-in other words, she moved out of the "Messick district".
My second passion is ANY beach along the 30A Highway between Destin and Panama City. We go in October when the crowd is down and the weather is absolutely beautiful.
I am writing this post-reunion. The 40th was just great. I think we were thrilled to be alive and kicking. I was looking forward to seeing a lot of my Campus School chums like Mary Tatom, Sherry Novak, Clint Powell, Renee Richardson (whose mother I taught with), and others.
