I am finally sitting down to write this story of my life over the last 40 years. Oh Wow! Where do I begin? Life has been good, interesting and fulfilling. I have had many experiences and I am amazed that I am still alive and in one piece and ready to live another 40 years. (Well maybe not 40)!
Briefly, I married in 1970, graduated from college in 1974 (after flunking out after 3 quarters). College was for visiting in the coffee shop and going to parties, right? I eventually graduated from Central Washington University in Education and became an elementary teacher.
Later, I returned to school and got a Master's degree in School Counseling and have been a high school counselor for the past 25 years. Oh, what an interesting job! I could tell you stories that would make our high school days seem mild. ( However, I do think we had more innocent fun). I love working with high school aged kids and still enjoy football, basketball and soccer games. I even compete in homecoming assemblies where the staff team usually holds it's own.
Besides working, I am on the Board of Commissioners for our local hospital. This is a very challenging responsibility as you all know, I'm sure, how difficult and confusing our health care system can be. I could write a book on that.
My life is very busy and I enjoy many outside activities. Over here, you can plan outside things and you don't have to worry about the rain. I do miss the wonderful green of the Puget Sound area and the smell of the salt water. Many of my family still live in Bellingham and I get back "home" a couple of times a year.
I too, am a grandma! Oh my gosh, did I say that? But how great it is!!! My oldest son, Ryan, has two young sons, Andrew and Owen. He and his wife, Katie, live about two hours from me. He is a fireman, and so 9/11 had some very significant meaning to my family with the whole horror of that time and event. My other son, Michael, is currently an officer in the Army and has been to Iraq once. He went in with the Navy SEALS the night before the war began and "took" control of the Iraqi oil rigs. Oh! It is a good thing that I did not know what his mission was, or I would have gone crazy. He is safe back in the States now but will probably have to make another tour over in Iraq. Pray for our country and our military personnel; they need all the support we can give them.
I could go on and on-------but I guess I will see some of you at the reunion. I have enjoyed reading all of the biographies that have been submitted, and have found myself smiling and even giggling out loud as some very fond memories have been stirred about the class of "67". Hope to see you soon. Meredith
