Today's Featured Biography
Jonathan Moss
After graduating from SCHS, I moved to Arkadelphia and enrolled at Henderson State University. I chose HSU because all I have ever wanted to do was be a pilot. Since HSU is the only 4 year school in the state that offers aviation as a degree, it was the logical choice. I progressed through the program and became a Certified Flight Instructor in December of 1999. I taught students how to fly while completing my BS degree. Sarah and I got married on May 20, 2000. I graduated from HSU in May of 2001, and I continued to flight instruct for the university. Around late August I began sending resumes out to airlines attempting to get hired as an airline pilot. Soon after that, September 11th came along and definitely set back a lot of my plans to become an airline pilot. All of the airlines were furloughing pilots and I knew my chance of getting hired was going to be pushed back for an undetermined amount of time. Because of the whole airline thing, I decided I wanted to go another route. I really love teaching and the fact that I would not have to be away from home and family while flying for the airlines was appealing to me. So, after searching for a master's degree that would help me to teach at a university level, I decided to enroll at UALR. I graduated from UALR in the Summer of 2004 with a Masters of Arts in Higher Education with emphasis in Aviation (from Delta State University) and Two Year Colleges. While completing my Master's Degree, I took a job as Direct of Aviation at ASU-Newport (a community college in northeastern Arkansas). The only downside to this job was its location. Neither Sarah or myself wanted to permanently relocate to the armpit of the world, which is Newport, AR. While I was at Newport, Sarah and I had our first child, Hannah Rebecca on March 23, 2004. After a one year stint at Newport, in which I commuted back to Arkadelphia on the weekends because Sarah still had a job in Arkadelphia, I decided to resign from that position and return to Arkadelphia. In the Spring of 2005, a faculty position at HSU opened and I was lucky enough to be chosen. I have since been working as a full time faculty member teaching aviation classes and flying flight tests with our students. I really am truly blessed to be where I am today with a great job, a wonderful wife, and an adorable daughter with another on the way (due Feb 12, 2007).
