Following graduation in 1968, I attended ASU, for 3 years, and then enlisted in the US Army. After my honorable discharge, 3 years later, I completed my BS Degree at ASU in Criminal Justice. Simultaneously pursuing my MS degree, I began working for the State of Arizona and the Arizona Department of Corrections, at an entry level position as a Correctional Program Officer in the maximum security unit at the Florence Prison. Advancement throughout my career included positions as Classification Administrator, Deputy Warden, Facility Activation Administrator, PIO, Warden and Senior Warden (10 years), Deputy Director over Institutions (all prisons), and Acting Director during my final year before retiring in June 2003. Within 3 months, I was in Iraq as the Operations Director and Senior Advisor of the Iraqi Prison System for 44 months during two tours for the DOJ.
Upon my return in the fall of 2008, I was invited to return to the Arizona Department of Corrections as the director. I'm completing my 10th year and look forward to the future and our contributions to recidivism reduction and reentry. Public safety is the priority -- that said, recidivism reduction and successful reentry is the goal, in pursuit of reducing the size of the prion system, and the fiscal impact to the taxpayer.
I've been happily married to Kathleen for over 38 years; coincidentally, she retired after 38 years in education 2 years ago. We have two wonderful children: Kelly is a dual graduate with dual degrees from ASU and UA - he uses his engineering degree from UoA and works for SRP; our daughter-in-law, Natalie has a Communications Degree from ASU, having worked as an Airline Flight Attendant and now exclusively as a professional photographer!
These young parents have blessed us with one grandson, Brady Lee ( 2 1/2 years) and another grandson (yet named - JAN 2019)!
Madison is an intellectually challenged young lady with downs' syndrome, who is an incredible athlete and Special Olympics has been a passion of ours for 30 years.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
