Barbara Snyder Magargal

I moved to California from Colorado in the later part of my sophmore year. I attended ECVHS for the remainder of my sophmore year, then moved over to Granite Hills at the beginning of my junior year.

Basically a shy person, I wallflowered through my 2 years at Granite Hills. I fell in love but that just didn't seem like the right time..so upward and onward.

After graduation, I started working at the Bank of America on 5th Avenue and Broadway in San Diego. Really didn't like it. My sister worked for the Trust officer and I worked for the Assistant trust officer. Guess who got extra work dumpted on her.....

After that I worked as an information operator at the phone company. Hated being stuck in from of a small cubicle with a board full of holes sitting in front of me.

I got married a year later, worked as a waitress at Oscar's in El Cajon, had three beautiful children and after five years of abuse divorced my husband and started out a new life.

I did some modeling, worked at Mickie Finns as a coctail waitress, got re-married, made a few documentaries and TV commercials, became a private investigator and insurance adjustor.

I was the first woman in San Diego history to be admitted to the Insurance Adjustors Society.

After several years as an investigator, I gave the bosses thought I had gotten good enough to move me up. However, moving up in that field was moving down. They wanted to put me into investigating drugs and dealers.

With three kidlets at home, I decided that was no longer what I needed to do.

In the early 70's my husband and I moved to Montana. He had a severe drinking problem and was not a nice drunk. I divorced him and some time later, married a man from North Dakota.

We lived off the land when I maintained a 2 1/2 acre personal garden. During the summer, I would grow vegetables and can them, then in the winter it was Snow Mobile time.

I LOVED the farm. It was a good life, we ate good food fresh from the garden, if we needed beef, I'd shoot a cow, dress it out, can half and freeze the rest after cutting it up into steaks, roasts etc.

The man I married proved to be not such a good man. He was actually looking for a live in hired hand that could do the work so he could go back to Montana and ride the range.

I took care of 12 acres of land. We grew sunflowers for the oil, wheat to sell and had two fields of alfalfa we cut and baled for the cattle. We had about 132 cattle, five horses, pigs, and a turkey. We raised the cattle, branded them, made steers out of bulls, tagged them then took them to auction.

I worked the fields. I would plow, dig, plant, cultivate and combine the fields myself. A neighbor hired me to plow his fields for him because I could track a straight row and I was good at it.

Several years later I divorced him and moved back to California. I started working as a waitress again, then started a landscaping company and have been doing it for over 27 years.

My choice in men have not been the best, so I've given em up! I currently work on gourds and paint for relaxation.

I have not traveled to travel, but have lived in Colorado, California, Montana and North Dakota.
