Today's Featured Biography
Sharon Davis Ransom
Went to LA County/USC school of Nursing ten days after graduation for one year. Went to Santa Ana Jr. College Fall of 1968 through January of 1970 while working at Palm Harbor Hospital as an aide and then inhalation therapist. Met my sweet husband of 47 years through my best friend in high school, Martha Gerling Brancucci, September 7, 1969 and we married in January of 1970. We moved to Fort Worth, Tx after he completed his tour in the US Marine Corp. We had our first daughter in November of 1970 and went on to have two more daughters and a son by December of 1975. I returned to nursing school in the Fall of 1981 at Tarrant County Jr College and upon graduation in May of 1983 took a night shift position (11P-7A) at Cook Children's in Fort Worth, TX. I worked as a bedside nurse the first year and a half and then took an Assistant Head Nurse position on a pre/post operative unit for the next 14 years in the same facility. I returned to school to obtain my BSN from University of Texas at Arlington in 1998 and then my Masters in Healthcare Administration from The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton TX in May of 2003. I continued to work for Cook Children's in the Education department as an Educator for various units throughout the hospital. In May of 2004 I received my Advanced Nurse Educator Certificate from the University of Texas at Arlington so I could teach in schools of nursing which I did off and on while working for Cook Children's as a clinical instructor in Pediatrics. In my almost 33 years with Cook Children's I've had many wonderful opportunities but probably one of the most rewarding experience outside of teaching and patient care was being the Magnet Program Director and being part of Cook Children's being designated a Magnet Facility, making us part of the 1% of hospitals to be designated Magnet in the world. I retired in March of 2015 believing God's call to the profession of Nursing was truly a blessing in my life. My husband and I have lived in Granbury, Tx for the last 20 years after our four amazing children made homes of their own. Elizabeth is a Social Worker, Nanci is a Nurse at Cook Children's, Marjorie is an Accountant and William is the Manager of the Discount Tire here in Granbury. God has blessed us with 12 grandchildren, 9 boys and 3 girls as well as 3 great-grandchildren, 3 boys and the 4th due in April, 2017 will be our first great-granddaughter. The children all live nearby as do the adult grandchildren except for the two grandsons currently serving the US Marine Corp in North Carolina. My husband and I love cruising, playing golf (he plays and I drive the golf cart) and reading but mostly we enjoy spending time with our children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as much as we can. I still love to sew and have taken up quilting and will begin a Texas themed quilt for our bed called Wildflowers of Texas in March after completing a lap robe and table runner, of course both are Texas themed. I also do cross stitch, make greeting cards and do a little knitting. I still love to cook but prefer a more healthy fare with occasional deviations to some really good steaks and salads and of course my husbands wonderful BBQ which is awesome. I also teach a Sunday School class at church for 4 and 5 year olds. It keeps me on my toes and energized. Looking forward to the reunion and reconnecting with classmates. God Bless You All.
