Today's Featured Biography
Kenneth Thompson
Ken Thompson enrolled at Sacramento State College and majored in mechanical engineering. Ken passed the California Engineer In Training Exam in 1964. He also married Vicki Stevenson in 1964, but they separated in less than a year and later divorced. He lost his student draft deferment, and tried to enlist in the Navy, but was found to be physically unfit for military service.
He began a full time job at the University of California at Davis Hydraulic Laboratory #2 in December 1965 where he spent 12 years working mainly on physical hydraulic models of parts of the California Water Project. He also attended Sacramento City College, receiving an AA degree, and the University of California at Davis, where he changed his major to Civil Engineering. He married Sandra Tarango in 1965. They soon had a girl, Gina, and 3 years later a boy, Michael.
Ken and Sandra divorced in 1980. Ken had left the University, and worked for about 5 years as an advertising account executive, apartment manager, rental rehabilitation and repair person and moped mechanic. Ken began work as a Radiological Control Technician at Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo in 1981, and married Helen Morrow in 1982. On July 22, 1988 Ken quit drinking alcohol and started recovering. Ken was much happier after he realized he had a problem and did something about it. However, he and Helen divorced soon afterward.
Ken married Evelyn March 29, 1991. They are still happily married! Evelyn has two daughters, Fay and Tamara, and a son Gary. Ken is estranged from his daughter and son. But Evelyn’s children are close to him. Ken and Evelyn have had three great-grand-daughters arrive within the last 10 months! They are in Oklahoma, Idaho and California. Ken began working for the Army Corps of Engineers after Mare Island readied for closure in 1995. He has been inspecting levees and working on flood risk management projects since then, and is expecting to retire in the next year or so.

"Just discovered your product today while trying to locate classmates ahead of our 50th reunion in 2020. The fact that you did this in a noncommercial manner in a world where everything has a price tag deserves recognition and respect, in my view.
Thank you and good luck in all your endeavors."
